Dr. Nathan Darwin Hale, 83, of Kerrville, TX, passed away surrounded by family on February 12, 2022. Closest to him at the time was his beautiful bride of 55 years, Karen Hale.

Darwin was born in Ft. Worth, TX on December 13, 1938. Although moving several times in his youth, he spent the vast majority of his years growing up in Stephenville, TX, where he was a strong athlete lettering in football and baseball. He would spend halftimes in the band playing saxophone. He attended Tarleton State University for 2 years and the University of Texas at Austin for 1 year. He was accepted into medical school, at UTMB Galveston, a year early after completing his junior year in Austin.

After medical school, Darwin did his residency in family practice in Ft. Worth at John Peter Smith hospital, while serving honorably in the US Air Force Reserves. It was here that he met the love of his life, Karen Tyson. They were married on May 27th, 1966 and settled in Arlington where he practiced family medicine for nearly 50 years.

His love for his patients was evident throughout the years. He delivered hundreds of babies, made countless house calls and served his community with caring kindness throughout his entire career. He offered his time to serve as physician for Golden Gloves as well as the honorary physician of the State Capitol. He would often come home with trinkets from patients he gladly accepted as ''payments'' rather than cash. He served proudly as the team doctor for the Arlington Colts football team throughout his children's tenure there and far beyond. He took great pride in serving as many as 5 generations of the same family over the years. In 2004, he was voted ''Top Doc'' in Family Practice in Tarrant County. He loved his patients and the community of Arlington as he did his own family. He was one of the lucky individuals that found his passion in his work and truly loved going to work every day. He retired his practice in 2015 and moved to be near his grandchildren in Kerrville, TX.

Darwin was preceded in death by his parents, Luther Paul Hale and Ida Grace Hale and brother, ''Scotty'' Hale. He is survived by his wife, Karen Hale, his children, Kellie Hale from Ft. Worth, TX and Dr. Tyson Hale of Kerrville, TX and four grandchildren, Hunter Hale, Luke Hale, Camdyn Hale and Leighton Hale all of Kerrville, TX.

A Memorial Service will be held on March 12, 2022 at 10am at Moores Funeral Home in Arlington, TX officiated by his niece's husband, Ron Sabo.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to Peterson Hospice. The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to the wonderful and caring nurses of Peterson Hospice.

I just learned of Darwin's passing today. Darwin and I were buddies in Biochemistry during our freshman year at UTMB. On day one he introduced himself and inquired as to whether I knew where he could hear jazz in Galveston. I did not. We would be in transient contact the remainder of med school.
Fond memories of my friend and colleague Dr. Nathan D. Hale, and my best thoughts for his family.

Dr. Hale was my first PCP after I first moved to Arlington in Aug. 1998. I really missed him after he retired. I never knew what happened to him after he retired. Recently, while talking to my brother, I mentioned Dr. Hale to him. He found the information for me that Dr. Hale had passed away on Feb. 12, 2022. I want Karen and the family to know that he had a great influence in my life. It was my honor to have known him. My prayers are with your family this holiday season as I know his absence will be greatly felt. Sincerely, Vickie Fickling

Dr Hale became our M.D. after Chuck met you at the drug store where he was employed and you had some kind of problem. He remained our Dr until his retirement. Dr Hale took such compassionate care of us. My deepest condolences in your loss; my prayers for your peace and comfort. I know the grief you are experiencing since Chuck passed almost 3 yrs ago.

Karen, I am sadden by your loss. He was such a good doctor. I moved to Weatherford, TX in 2018. I continued to travel back to Arlington for all my aches and pains as I had so much confidences in him that I hated to seek out a doctor in Weatherford. Dr. Hale can rest assured that I did find one that reminds me of him. I thank you and him for everything that the two of you did for me. In case you don't recall me I am the one that gave him the book On General Jacob Smart that was my relative. Wish I could attend the service but I don't drive out of Weatherford. I pray that God will give you the strength needed to endure his loss and keep you in his loving arms. Kathryn King.

Karen, Kelly, and Tyson,

Ann and I were so saddened to learn of Darwin's passing away. I know you are devastated, and have many emotions to attend to, but in the many conversations I had with Darwin he made it very clear how much he loved his family. The last few years of his life were very difficult for all of you. God has relieved Darwin of his pain and suffering now. I am happy about that, but now you are left with dealing with his loss from your lives, until you meet again in Heaven. God Bless you all.

He was a great doctor, but even a better father. He often treated me as his own son! Dr. Hale will be greatly missed! - Ryan Rudolph
