Martha Claire Wilson

Martha Claire Martin Wilson, age 86, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at River Point of Kerrville in Kerrville, Texas. She was surrounded by her family, dear friends and the loving staff. She was born October 6, 1936, to Ripp Vann Martin and Johnnie Bell Duderstadt Martin in San Antonio, Texas. She went to Grammar, Jr. High School and had the honor of being a majorette and football sweetheart at Junction High School where she graduated. She attended Trinity University in San Antonio for one year and Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas for two years, majoring in Home Economics. She married Roy William “Bill” Baker, Jr. on April 19, 1957 in the First Baptist Church of Junction, Texas. They were married for 18 years and they were blessed with two daughters, Lisa and Bonnie. On March 10, 1979 Martha married her high school sweetheart Walton Arthur “W.A.” Wilson, Jr. They enjoyed 25 years together and many wonderful memories were made during that time.

Martha retired from San Felipe Consolidated School District in Del Rio, Texas where she worked in the accounting department for many years. She was a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas and Eastern Star. Her passions were watching the Dallas Cowboys, the San Antonio Spurs, watching and talking tennis with her grandson, traveling, playing cards, working in her yard, being the best “Nana” she could be and most importantly making friends.

Martha was preceded in death by her mother, Johnnie Bell Martin; her father, Ripp Vann Martin; her husband, W.A. Wilson; sister, Mary Gene Murr; step-son, Rock “Rocky” Bannon Wilson; niece Wanda Wallace and great niece Michelle Hobbs. Survivors include daughters, Lisa Baker of Kerrville, Texas, Bonnie Goodwin (husband Robert); grandson Braden Baker Goodwin all of Rocksprings, Texas; her sister, Kay Hurley (husband Bobby) of Junction; nieces Teressa Kaye Barfield (husband Smokey), Martha Gene Rowe (husband Wesley) all of Junction; nephew Bobby Morris Hurley of San Antonio, Texas; niece Dora Claire Whitworth (husband Tootie), niece Carla Coffey all of San Angelo, Texas; stepchildren Jolene Williams (husband Jay) of Junction, Teresa Wade (husband Dale) of Monahans, Texas, Baye Wilson (wife Mary) of Fredericksburg, Texas and their children Cale, Carli Joe, Rebecca, Robin, Bannon, Lindsey, Jacy, Kinsey, Lauren and numerous great nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church, Junction, Texas at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 7, 2023, with dear friend Rod Hall of Huffman, Texas officiating. Pallbearers will be Teddy Holekamp, Bobby Morris Hurley, Dan Higgens, Cameron Smart, Sonny, and Wesley Gene Rowe. Honorary Pallbearers are Bobby Hurley, Wesley Rowe, Smokey Barfield and Larry Trimble.

The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to Dr. Noe Martinez (wife Doreen), Dr. Young, and all the wonderful staff and nurses at Riverpoint of Kerrville and Sid Peterson Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Sid Peterson Hospice or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
