Janice R. Lipman
2/26/1939 - 10/22/2023

On October 22, Janice Roodhouse Lipman was reunited with the love of her life in their Heavenly home. Jan (as she preferred to be called) lived in Kerrville with her husband, Steve, since 1997. Tierra Linda Ranch was their little slice of Heaven, and Notre Dame Catholic Church was their home away from home. Now, at age 84, they are truly living in Heaven with their Lord and Savior.

Jan was born on February 26, 1939, to Thomas and Dorothy Roodhouse. She and her older brother, Jim, were raised in South Pasadena, California where she was very active at school. Jan was involved in school government, clubs, and sports. She studied Elementary Education at the University of California, Berkeley. Jan was a member of Delta Gamma at Cal. Through a fraternity-sorority party, Jan met Steve Lipman. They married at 21 years of age. After graduating from Cal, Jan taught kindergarten in the Los Angeles area while Steve received his masters. Once Steve graduated from USC, Jan started the job she loved most… being a mother. She was an exceptional wife and mother. She cared deeply for her family and friends. She did this not out of obligation, but because of who she was. Jan was always willing to help and people always wanted to work with her. While raising their 4 children, Jan helped with various Panhellenic activities, organized church and school functions, and volunteered at multiple charities. All of this charitable work paled in comparison to her next greatest job – being “Mimi” to 8 grandchildren. Since most of the grandchildren lived out of state, she treasured the precious moments she spent with them. Jan’s vivacious personality drew those grandchildren to her, as well as everyone else who knew her. Jan lived well, loved much, and laughed often.

Jan was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Dorothy Roodhouse, her loving husband, Steve Lipman, and her nephew, David Roodhouse. She is survived by her faithful brother, Jim (and Ginny) Roodhouse of Bellevue, WA and her four devoted children: Michael (and Jennifer) Lipman of San Diego, CA; Bob (and Nicole) Lipman of Santa Rosa, CA; Gary “Ises” (and Kristin) Lipman of Honolulu, HI; and Julie (and Bruce) Stracke of Kerrville, TX. Jan also left behind her adoring grandchildren: Sadie Lipman, Hannah Lipman, Bella “Rae” Lipman, Selah Lipman, Tehya Lipman, Jordan Jones, Andrew (and Misty) Stracke, and Rebekah Stracke, as well as beloved nephews and niece: Mark (and Lynn) Roodhouse, Jeff (and Tanya) Roodhouse, and Nancy (and Brian) Smith.

A Memorial Mass will take place on December 29, 2023 at 11am at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Kerrville. Jan’s remains will be buried at Garden of Memories following the Mass.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in her name to: St. Vincent de Paul Society – 1145 Broadway, Kerrville, TX 78028.
