James Edward Favaron Sr.
8/8/1938 - 11/5/2023
James “Jim” Edward Favaron, Sr. 85, of Kerrville, Texas, passed away on Sunday, November 5th, 2023. He was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to Joseph Rano Favaron, Jr. and Mary Ann Oubre on August 8th, 1938. He married Helen Mary Kane-Favaron on November 29, 1986, in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was born and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He was a member of the Catholic Church. He joined the US Navy on August 2nd, 1955 at the age of 17 doing a four year tour on the Destroyer USS James E Kyes as a fireman in the boiler room. He was discharged on the 12th of August 1959 in Los Angeles, California. His favorite baseball team had relocated from Brooklyn to Los Angeles while he was in the Navy so he decided to stay there instead of going back to Louisiana. In California, he was offered a position at the Power Plant in Glendale, where he worked as a boiler technician, what he had been doing for 4 years in the Navy. He stayed there for 16 years until he decided to go on the road as a truck driver for United Van Lines and Mayflower Trucking. He loved being out on the road and had many stories to share about it. In 1985, after 14 years on the road, he decided to return to the Power Plant in Glendale for a second time until he retired in 1998 with 30 years of service.
In 2007, Jimmy suggested that he get a job at Cracker Barrel (in Kerrville) as a dishwasher to just have something to do. He loved his job there, becoming a four-star employee in both dish and retail. He continued worked for them right up until his death, serving Kerrville for 16 years. He loved the relationship he had with the employees and all the guests. He met his wife Helen in Glendale, California at a bowling alley after the passing of her father in 1985. She has a son, Rolland, who was 12 at the time. Jim and Helen dated and eventually married in November 1986. The guys at the Power Plant razzed him, telling him most guys at 48 are planning on retiring and you’re getting married and planning to start a family. YOU’RE NUTS. But they had their son, Jimmy Favaron, Jr. in June 1988, just before his 50th birthday in August and he didn’t stop there. Nope, in December of 1991, they had a daughter, Heather Michelle. Jim and Helen moved their family from Northridge, California to Kerrville, Texas in July 1998. He loved the Texas Hill Country.
He was blessed again in November 2012 when Heather had Sophie Elizabeth, his granddaughter. She was his Pineapple Princess because she was born in Honolulu, Hawaii and he adores her very much. He is survived by his wife, Helen and step-son Rolland Latta of Kerrville; his son, Jimmy and his wife Zabe of Albuquerque, New Mexico; daughter, Heather Bruan and her husband Joshua of Poynette, Wisconsin; and his three grandchildren, Rolland Latta, Jr. of Iowa, Ramona Latta of California and Sophie Elizabeth Russell of Wisconsin; sister, Carolyn and husband Ray Kahrs of Slidell, Louisiana and their three children Tiffany Pollack of New Orleans, Joey Kahrs of Slidell and Michael Kahrs of Walker, Louisiana; and his sister, Sherry Tilton of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Visitation will be held on Veteran’s Day, Saturday, November 11th, 2023 at 12 noon with funeral services starting at 2:00 pm, beginning with a full Military Honor Guard and taps at Grimes Funeral Chapels, 728 Jefferson Street in Kerrville, with Travis Carlson officiating.
