Allen Lee Neal

Allen Lee Neal, 86, of Fredericksburg, passed on February 14, 2024, of natural causes while training a horse on a rural property. He was born in Medina to Alex Lee Neal and Amelia Bauerlein on November 29, 1937. Born and raised on ranches, he was a true cowboy and good horseman. Working from the age of five, he pursued many occupations including: ranch and stable management, law enforcement, trucking, as well as service station and restaurant ownership. Most recently he traded tractors and drove for Jenschke Construction Co. and Off the Vine Wine Tours.
Following high school, he served in the US Navy from 1956-1960. Throughout his younger life he rode broncs and bulls. A champion header, he competitively team roped into his late seventies. He was especially proud of being recruited to manage legendary rodeo champion Larry Mahan’s ranch in Bandera; and of his role as an officer in the movie The Blue and the Gray.
Mr. Neal was preceded in death by his brother, Wayne "Butch" Neal; step-brother, Glen Schneider; step-sister, Lanelle Kirk; and ex-wife, Elizabeth Bryant Padgett.
Survivors include his son, Lee Moser; four grandchildren, Kaitlyn Keith, Bethany Shepherd, Savanah Aubrey and Austin Moser; and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by nephews, Gary Stokes and Justin Neal; and his longtime companion, Virginia "Ginger" Merchant.
Mr. Neal was buried at West Prong Cemetery in Medina. A family gathering will be held at a later date.
