Betty Thomas Collins

Betty Thomas Collins, 89, of Kerrville, TX, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2024 in Kerrville, TX, after battling pancreatic cancer. She was born in Canute, OK to Arthenia Duncan Thomas and Burris G. Thomas on July 17, 1934, having two older brothers and an older sister. Betty married Worley Shultz in May 1952 in Canute, OK. Betty attended the public schools in Canute, she was valedictorian of her high school graduating class and attended Girl's State.

Upon her marriage, Betty moved to Dodge City, KS. Betty went to work for the local electric company. She was a member of First Christian Church where she helped with the 3rd grade Sunday School class, Vacation Bible School and attended Adult Sunday School class. Betty was a member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority. She worked at Fidelity State Bank, as a Director for many years. Upon her retirement, she moved to Albuquerque, NM, where she met Frank Collins; they married in October 1981.

Survivors include husband of 42 years Frank Collins, Kerrville, TX; daughter Kathleen Alps, husband George A. Alps, Jr. of Longmont, CO; son Lane Shultz, wife Peggy of Tulsa, OK; brother Donnie Gale Thomas, wife Carolyn, of Broomfield, CO; step-sons Edward and Sabrina Collins of San Francisco Bay Area, William and Yvonne Collins of Albuquerque, NM, Thomas and Karen Collins of Albuquerque, NM and John Collins of Pueblo, CO; grandchildren Brayden and Landen Collins, Pueblo, CO, David Collins, Alicia Collins, Albuquerque, NM, Dusty and Lindsey Wilson, Lincoln, NE, Jessica Siler, Bistro, OK, Terri Liggett, Pratt, KS, Ashley Woodworth, Tulsa, OK, Iris Wilson of Omaha, NE, Jayonah Shultz, Jerrmie Carr, Joshua Carr of Tulsa, OK.

Betty and Frank traveled over most of the United States in Frank's airplane. They particularly enjoyed stops in New Mexico and Colorado. As a professor's wife, she enjoyed living in Lubbock, TX, Miami, FL, and Laredo, TX where Frank taught at Texas Tech University, University of Miami, and Texas A&M International University. She was an expert seamstress and produced much craftwork. She particularly enjoyed working with the "craft ladies" at the Point Craft Group. Both she and her husband were members of Kerrville Global Methodist Church. Special thanks to Peterson Hospice for their wonderful and loving care.

Her visitation will be from 1 pm to 2 pm. The funeral will begin at 2 pm, both held at Grimes Funeral Chapels, 728 Jefferson Street, Kerrville, TX on March 2. Interment will be in her family plot at Canute Cemetery, Canute, OK on March 9 at 10 am.
