Dane Lee Tune
9/24/1945 - 3/8/2024
Dane L. Tune of Kerrville, TX, passed on into the great blue yonder on March 8th, 2024 at the age of 78. He took his last breath surrounded by his loved ones in his beloved home on Tierra Linda Ranch.
Dane was born September 24, 1945 in Dallas, TX to Robert Long Tune and Nadine (Hatcher) Tune. He was a graduate of South Oak Cliff High School in 1964 where he lettered in track. After that, he went on to get a degree in Administrative Management from Texas Tech University in 1969 followed by a second degree in Accounting from Dallas Baptist College. Dane's work history included the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, the City of Lancaster and controller at Dallas Baptist College. In 1986, he moved to Kerrville to work for the City of Kerrville serving as Finance Director and then Assistant City Manager for over 15 years before retiring in 2004.
Genealogy was a passion of Dane's, tracing his ancestors' journey in 1652 from England to Annapolis, Maryland. William Tune worked to pay the captain for his ship fare. His many other interests included reading, researching, philosophizing, and collecting surreal art and stone artifacts. He enjoyed jogging, walking and backpacking with his buddies. Dane and his wife Sue were able to enjoy many cherished adventures, exploring the United States and all around the world. Those who knew him can attest: he relished in a good meal! Dane cared for many animals and pets, making sure they were well fed and loved.
Dane brought unique and interesting topics into his adult Sunday School classes at St. Peter's Episcopal Church that were well attended and thoroughly enjoyed. Dane was also instrumental in bringing the lovely Labyrinth project to the courtyard of their church, a peaceful place to walk, ruminate, and meditate. This was something Dane was quite fond of. He and his wife were active members for many years. In 1994, the two purchased Sue's family home on Tierra Linda Ranch where they made many memories for the years to come. Dane served on the Tierra Linda Board of Directors and the ranch Riding Advisory.
He is survived by his wife Sue, daughter Julie Wade and her husband Donny of Dallas, TX, stepdaughter Amber Cunningham and husband John Uptmoor, Jr. of Flower Mound, TX and stepson Brandon Cunningham and wife Leigh of Albuquerque, NM and grandson Duncan Cunningham. Preceding him in death were his parents Robert and Nadine Tune; parents-in-law, Buddie and Katchie Shelburne, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James and Anne Swope.
A celebration of life is planned for 11AM, Tuesday March 12, 2024 at St. Peter's Episcopal Church.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Tierra Linda Volunteer Fire Department or the charity of your choice.
The family would like to thank all of the staff at Peterson Hospice for their wonderful care, especially Nurse Sam Marshall.
