Pinky Brown
12/13/1935 - 4/10/2024
W. B. (Pinky) Brown, III of Kerrville, Texas, passed away on April 10, 2024.
Pinky was born December 13, 1935, in San Antonio, Texas and was 88 years old.
Pinky was a third-generation native of Kerr County. After graduating from Tivy High School in 1953, he attended the Schreiner Institute and played football there for 2 years, attended the University of Texas and studied Geology, and then received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology from Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas in 1960 (where he also played football for 2 years).
Pinky met his wife Joann in Alpine, Texas while they were both attending Sul Ross State University. They were married for 47 years (1964 – 2011).
Pinky had gained some early experience in working in the oil & gas exploration business, specifically on drilling rigs in Texas, Wyoming, and the Gulf of Mexico.
His interest in geology and the oil & gas industry, led him to adventure across the Atlantic to North Africa in 1961. He would spend 16 years of his early career working in the Libyan and Sahara Desert and providing services to the regional oil & gas industry there during the early years of that development. He and Joann started their family there with the births of Bryce and Andrea.
He, Joann and the kids returned to the U.S. in 1977 where he continued to provide oil & gas procurement services to multi-national energy companies in the Middle East and Eastern Europe, based out of Houston, Texas.
In 1981, Pinky moved back to Kerrville with the family where he started working for his parents Red and Lydia Brown in their fuels distribution business, Brown Oil Company.
After the family run business was sold, Pinky entered the local real estate business and worked until his retirement in the early 2000’s.
He was loved and cherished by many friends and especially his direct family including: his parents, the late, W. B. Brown Jr. (Red) and Lydia Whitewood Brown; his wife, the late, Joann Brown; his son, Bryce Brown and daughter-in-law Laura Brown of Spring, Texas; his grandchildren, Dillon Brown of the Colony, Texas and Faith Brown of Arlington, Virginia; his daughter, Andrea Koonsen and son-in-law Mike Koonsen of Round Rock, Texas; and his brothers, the late, Spencer Whitewood Brown, and Kelby David Brown of San Antonio, Texas.
Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 26, 2024, at the First Presbyterian Church of Kerrville (800 Jefferson St, Kerrville, TX 78028).
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in the name and memory of “W.B. Brown III (Pinky)” to either the First Presbyterian Church or to Schreiner University in Kerrville, Texas (both celebrating Centennials last year).
The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Rebecca Piszczor, Amy Bennett, Lynn Lucero, Rachel Brundage, Shannon Rasmussen, Cottages at Chandler Creek of Round Rock, TX, and Divinity Hospice of Round Rock, TX for their continual love and care of our father on his journey home.
