Jose Mireles Lopez
10/20/1948 - 7/9/2024

Jose Mireles “Joe” Lopez, 75, of Kerrville, TX, departed this life on July 9, 2024.

He fought a long battle of health issues, all the while still thanking and praising God and caring for his family. Joe was born in Blanco, TX to the late Julia Mireles Lopez and Jesse Lopez on October 20, 1948. However, Kerrville was his home where he lived, worked, and cared for his family. His wife, Amanda “Marty” initially pushed him in the right direction which led to him not only being a great husband but also a great dad, grandpa, and great pee-pa.

He loved his family and always wanted the best for them. Joe not only provided for his family but taught his children by example. He was a man of strong character, great work ethics but most importantly a man of God. A true man of GRIT. Joe not only provided for his family but for community as well. He served God not only in faith but works. Joe served the church he attended for many years, dedicating time to deliver food to those in need, driving the church van and maintenance of the church and property. He not only served his church but was also loyal to God in missions to Mexico where he was Jesus with skin on, as our pastor would say. He did this by providing medical attention, housing, food and most importantly God’s word to those in need the most.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Julia Mireles Lopez; father, Jesse Lopez; son, Johnny Lopez; and grandson, Christopher O'Malley.

He is survived by his wife, Amanda Lopez; son, Jose “Joey” Lopez Jr.; daughters, Rosalie Castro (Greg), Jody Wilkinson (Wylie), Anita Vanklavern (Scott), Sonia Lopez; brothers, Emilio Lopez, Henry Lopez, Margo Lopez, Julio Lopez (Karen); sisters, Mary Leal, Linda Mayle; grandsons, Wylie Wilkinson Jr., Patrick O’Malley, Demetri Lopez, Jose Luis Castro, Jaden Lopez; granddaughters, Nichole Wilkinson (David), Miranda O’Malley, Bethanie Lopez, Reagan Lopez; great-granddaughters, Penelope Perryman, Scarlett Perryman; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A funeral service will be held at 2PM Monday, July 15, 2024, with the viewing to begin at 1PM, at Grimes Funeral Chapels, 728 Jefferson St. Kerrville, TX 78028. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery.
