Michael D. Vlasek
5/31/1947 - 7/28/2024

Michael D. Vlasek, of Hunt, a beloved husband, father, pa-pa, and founder of Vlasek Construction, passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2024, at the age of 77, in San Antonio Methodist Hospital.

Michael was born on May 31, 1947, in Gonzales, Texas, to Louise (Polasek) and John F. Vlasek.

He was the next to youngest of seven children. He attended school in Gonzales County during his childhood where he helped his dad in the Gonzales meat market. He was known for his keen business, "Best Bar-b-Q in Hunt," and his will to make things happen.

Michael and his family moved from Gonzales to Hunt in the 1960s where he ran The Hunt Gas Station. Moved to Houston for a short while but returned to Hunt and became a Ranch Foreman at Lazy Lane Ranch. His work revolved around his love for the great outdoors, farming, and construction equipment. He started his own construction business. He designed and engineered earthen projects in the area, dams, roads, stock ponds, excavation of massive boulders and rocks for landscaping and construction of rock walls, patios, and landings. Michael received a medal for "Outstanding Young Man of America" and after many years he has passed down the family business to his son which is now known as Vlasek and Son Construction.

As a community member, he was involved in the Hunt Volunteer Fire Department, The Hunt Happen Club, and his church Notre Dame parish.

Michael was preceded in death by his son, Shannon Vlasek; his mother and father; two brothers; and one sister.

He attended Tivy High school and graduated in 1965. He met the love of his life, Sandra (Kinsel) Vlasek of Hunt, and they married on April 19, 1968.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra; his son, John T. Vlasek and his wife Denise; two grandsons, Cody and Dylan Vlasek; three sisters; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and friends.

His love for his grandsons was powerful and they will miss him always. However, he leaves his family with jack-of-all trades, his wisdom, knowledge, love of God, and country.

The family thanks San Antonio Methodist Hospital with their heartfelt appreciation for their attentive care and assistance.

Rosary will be at 6:00 P.M. Sunday, August 4, 2024, at Grimes Funeral Chapels.

A celebration of life mass will be at 9:00 A.M. Monday, August 5, 2024, at Notre Dame Catholic Church, with Father Rafael Duda as Celebrant.

Graveside service will follow at Hunt Japonica Cemetery. Reception will follow at The Hunt Store.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Cody and Dylan Vlasek; nephews, Jody and Clifford Rice; nephew, Dennis Vlasek; and nephew, Scott Kinsel.
