Donna Lea Keller

It is with great sorrow that we share our dear Donna Lea Keller passed away on November 23, 2024 at her home in Houston, Texas at the age of 72. She was born in Hondo, Texas on December 2, 1951 to Johnnie Bill Coffey and Edna Lea Coffey of Tarpley, Texas. She married her forever sweetheart, Walter Keller, on March 25, 1989 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hondo, Texas. They were happily married for 35 years in which they shared a love of photography, sailing, traveling, and spending time with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She graduated from Hondo High School in 1968. In high school Donna was very active in the International Order of Rainbow for Girls (Hondo Assembly 258). The IORG is a Masonic youth organization that teaches leadership and character development through acts of community service. While participating in IORG, Donna was a Worthy Advisor and a Mother Advisor and was awarded the Grand Cross of Colors recognition. Additionally she was the Texas Farm Bureau State Chairman for the Texas Young Farmers and Ranchers Committee. She was a member and officer for the Hondo Junior Service League and was also a member of the Medina County Young Homemakers Organization.
Donna was an integral member of the banking industry for over 50 years. Over her career Donna served in various roles and capacities, beginning as a secretary at Gill Bank in Hondo and finishing her career at Black Knight as a project manager for the development and implementation of banking software at the international level. During her professional career, she was recognized by the “Who’s Who Women in Business” organization.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Donna was the epitome of what it means to care for one’s family. She was so committed to being present and providing love and support for her entire family and spent many hours driving all over the state to be there for her children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Edna Coffey; sister, Jo Anne (Coffey) Lutz; and nephew, John Kyle Clary.
She is survived by her husband, Walter Keller; sons, Shane Louis Wernette (Sarah), Lance Edward Wernette (Cesar); stepdaughters, Karen Sticksel, Kristi Leigh McCampbell (Chris), and Kathy Jungerman; and niece, Emily Rae Morlandt (Michael). Grandchildren include: Cooper and Rinley Wernette, Dominic and Brianna Villalta, Austin (Alex), John (Kasey), and Amy McCampbell, Daniel Jungerman, and Giacomo and Isabella Morlandt. Great-grandchildren are Sophia and Ethan McCampbell.
Visitation will take place at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Kerrville, Texas from 5:00-7:00 pm on Monday, December 2, 2024.
Her memorial service will take place at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hondo on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at 1:00 pm with graveside burial to follow in Tarpley.
In lieu of flowers, Donna requested that donations be made to the Make-a-Wish Foundation.
