Mrs. Verdie Mae (Duecker) Wellborn of Center Point, TX passed away Thursday, February 20, 2025, at Hilltop Village Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Kerrville, TX.

Funeral Services will be held 10AM Friday, February 28, 2025, at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Kerrville, TX with Pastor Kenneth Foster officiating. Interment to follow at Center Point Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday February 26, 2025, from Noon to 7PM, with the family present from 5-6:30PM.

Mrs. Wellborn was born January 28, 1945, in Fredericksburg, TX. Verdie was the daughter of August and Elsie (Kuhlmann) Duecker. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Doss, TX. Verdie married Edward Lee Wellborn on May 27, 1963 at Zion Lutheran Church in Kerrville, TX and lived their lives outside Center Point on the Wellborn Ranch.

Verdie was a loving wife, mother, sister and friend. She waitressed and worked in the kitchen and dietary areas of an array of healthcare facilities, as well as providing child care to a number of teachers and friends.

During her spare time, Verdie enjoyed coordinating her children’s school class parties, making costumes for school and church performances, baking (cakes, pies, cobblers, cookies, and fudge), canning and tending to her vegetable garden. Verdie also enjoyed her volunteer work with the local Veterans and was a member of a local German Dance Club.

Verdie was preceded in death by her parents, parents-in law, several aunts, uncles, sisters, sisters/brothers-in-law and grandson, Thomas Lee Wheatcraft.

Verdie is survived by her husband, Edward Lee; her son, John Allen Wellborn (wife Dianna) of Ingram, TX; daughter, Norma Jean Wheatcraft (husband Jason) of Kerrville, TX; daughter, Linda Kay Wimer (husband Dale) of Fremont, NE; 4 grandchildren, Skylia McLaughlin, Tylor Jay Wheatcraft, Victoria Wimer, Carter Wimer; 3 step-grandchildren, Betty Wright, Justin Thompson II, Nykoole Rowan; numerous great-grandchildren; sister, Eleanor Rose Mills of Felicity, OH; brother, Elgin August Duecker of Fredericksburg, TX; brother-in law, Aubrey Mueller of Granite Shoals, TX; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church or a charity of choice.
