Larry Reichenau
8/3/1950 - 3/9/2025

Larry Reichenau, 74, of Kerrville, passed away on March 9, 2025, at home surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Mason, TX on August 3, 1950. Larry grew up in the Mason, Fredericksburg and Kerrville areas. He graduated from Tivy High School in 1969. When he returned to the Hill Country in the mid-70s he went on to marry his sweetheart, Kay (Bennett) Reichenau, on March 17, 1979, at Prison Canyon Ranch in Kerrville.

Larry started working construction when he was barely a teenager. Well before high school graduation, he and his twin brother, Gary, learned from several contractors in the area how to run machines and move dirt. All three brothers were very adept at shaping the earth and worked hard to build a life for their families doing just that. In 1976, Larry and his brother Jerry started Reichenau Brothers Construction Company. Through the last 50 years, Larry has worked hard and shaped so much of the Hill Country to the beauty it is today. Driving down the Guadalupe, he could point out all the dams, roads, and structures that he and his brothers had created through the last five decades. He loved being on a machine and would tell anyone that asked what he did for a living that he simply “played in the dirt”. It was never just a job for him, but rather a lifestyle and a calling.

Family was of utmost importance to Larry. He and Kay met in high school and found their way back to each other to marry in 1979. She was the absolute light of his life and his sole purpose in life was to love and spoil her in any way he could. Their love was one for the books that all couples should aspire to. Together they loved to travel and watch their daughter, Misty, play basketball, and later in life that became watching their grandchildren in their activities. Almost 15 years ago, Larry got to meet his new best friend, grandson Harper. They were known to spend much time together hunting, fishing, shopping at Gibson’s, and playing at the yard. Larry traveled all over the state in the last couple years watching Harper play football, basketball, and baseball. The week before passing, Larry made it out to watch his little buddy play his first high school baseball game.

Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Kay; his parents, Melvin and Elsie Reichenau; his brother, Jerry; and his stepdaughter and grandson, Mandy and Rebel.

Survivors include his sister, Linda Karstensen and husband Elmer; his twin brother, Gary and wife Penny; daughter, Misty Kothe and husband Dustin; daughter, Dana Reichenau and husband Earl Mallet; and son, Larry Reichenau II. Larry’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren were incredibly special to him, and he loved being part of their lives. They include his best friend, Harper Kothe and sister Macy; Dackota McCain; Weslyn (Austin) Long and their daughter Berkley; Kaileigh Kirkpatrick and her daughter Aralynn; Jordon Reichenau; Brandon (Haley) Reichenau, and their children Braedyn, Landri and Dawson; and Clayton Reichenau.

Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 14, 2025, at Grimes Funeral Chapels.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Grimes Funeral Chapels with Robert Lockaby officiating. Burial will follow immediately at Garden of Memories in Kerrville.

The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the amazing nurses with Peterson Hospice who helped care for Larry in his last few days. To all of the amazing friends and family who have cared so closely for those who loved him during this time, we extend our eternal gratefulness.
