Robert Allan McCarson
9/27/1946 - 4/22/2025
Robert Allan McCarson, best known as Bob or Bob-O, of Mountain Home, TX, passed away on April 22, 2025 in Kerrville, TX at the age of 78. He was born in Comstock, TX to Nadine and Edmund McCarson on September 27, 1946. He married Joan McCarson on June 26, 1992 in San Angelo, TX.
He graduated Comstock High School in 1964, then continued his education at Sul Ross State College, where he earned his B.S. in Industrial Technology in 1968. Bob worked as an Industrial Arts teacher for 10 years and then in 1978, he earned his Master of Education degree at Stephen F. Austin State University. His most notable years were spent serving as a school administrator. He deeply cherished the students and colleagues from Huffman Middle School, Miles High School, and Reagan County High School. He was involved in these communities through his service and dedication to the Huffman Lions Club, Miles Lion Club (President), Reagan County Lions Club (President), and Leakey Lions Club. Bob received numerous recognitions over the years – Honorary Chapter Farmer (Huffman FFA), Citizen of the Year (Miles Lion Club), and Outstanding Principal (TX Association of Secondary School Principals), just to name a few.
After his retirement in 2002, Bob and Joan moved to the family ranch in Real County where he proudly served as owner/manager of the McCarson Brothers’ Ranch.
Apart from his academic and professional accomplishments, Bob was known as the cowboy hat wearing, bonfire building, Rhodesian Ridgeback raising, beer drinking, hilarious story-telling rancher, and friend to so many. He was a true animal lover and had many Ridgebacks, all named from the classic ‘Lonesome Dove’. His love of animals and tending to the livestock on the ranch made his retirement that much more sweet. Bob was preceded in death by his brothers Bill McCarson and Warren McCarson, parents Nadine and Edmund McCarson.
Survivors include wife Joan McCarson; daughter Rebecca Gould; son Matthew McCarson; stepson Cody Goetz and wife Carlee; stepdaughter Amber Goetz; brother Ray McCarson; grandchildren June McCarson, Dietz Goetz and Gretchen Goetz; nephews Mac McCarson, Michael and wife Lynn, and Andy and wife Denise, nieces Kaylynn and Nell, and many more loved ones and close friends.
A private Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.
The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to all the doctors, nurses, and caretakers over the last few years – especially those at Sid Peterson Memorial Hospital, Davita Kidney Center, and River Hills Heath and Rehabilitation, all of Kerrville, TX.
