Linda Gaye Stephens

Linda Gaye Jones Brown Stephens, 84, of Kerrville, Texas, passed away peacefully in San Antonio on June 17, 2025.
She was born on August 3, 1940, in Timpson, Texas, to Relda Clemons Jones and J. D. “Buck” Jones. During her childhood, her family relocated to Kerrville, Texas, which became her forever home. In 1958, she graduated from Tivy High School, where she excelled in sports and cheerleading.
She continued her studies in business at Southwest Texas, now known as Texas State University. For many years, she was an executive secretary, an office manager, and a business manager in Kerrville. She was dependable and detail oriented in her key administrative roles until her retirement in 2023.
As a young adult, Linda loved going dancing with friends, hunting and fishing with family, and volunteering at community events like the Heart of the Hills Golf Tournament. On Friday nights, she could be found cheering on her beloved Tivy Antlers from the 50-yard line with friends and family. She rarely missed a home game. She continued following Antler sports and participating in class reunions through this year. She even joined the Tivy alumni cheerleaders on the field for 2024 homecoming.
Linda was regarded for her strength, resilience, humor, and character, along with her thoughtfulness, always remembering loved ones with a handwritten card on special occasions. She treasured her sincere relationships with family, friends, and neighbors, whether sharing a laugh, a story, or a great meal. She adored her dachshund Bodie, her loyal companion.
She is preceded in death by her parents Relda and Buck Jones, her husband John Stephens, and daughter Suzanne Brown Mooney. She is also preceded in death by her ex-husband Spencer Brown.
She is survived by her son, Spencer W. Brown, Jr. (Ronda Frizzell Brown) of Austin and her sister, Brenda Jones Williams (Bryant) of Kerrville. Linda is also survived by her three cherished grandsons: Brandt Mooney of Kerrville, Brian Mooney of Kerrville, and Jordan Brown (Railey) of Leander and their son, Linda’s great-grandson, Branson Brown. She is also survived by nieces and nephews, Caroline Williams (David Certain), of Boerne and Paige Williams Sumner (Whit) of Kerrville, Bryce Brown (Laura), of Spring, Andrea Brown Koonsen (Mike) of Austin, and Kelby Brown, Jr. of San Antonio.
A celebration of life will take place on Friday, June 27, 2025, at 10 am at First United Methodist Church of Kerrville located at 321 Thompson Drive.
Memorial donations can be made to Kerrville Public School Foundation, Kerrville First United Methodist Church, Dietert Center, or the charity of one’s choice.
