Gwendolynne Skinner

Gwendolynne Skinner passed away on September 6, 2025, at the age of 91 in Kerrville, Texas. She was born in Clayton, New Mexico in July of 1945 to Sadie Love Harris and Frank Means. Gwen moved to Bayfield, Colorado with her family and lived for two years with Lana and Harold Wilson in Durango, Colorado to finish up high school. The Wilson’s and their children remained lifelong friends to Gwendolynne. After high school, Gwendolynne went to Baylor University and received her nursing degree and became a registered nurse. Upon graduating she moved to Edinburg, Texas where she had recently completed a rotation in Public Health. There she continued a friendship with a young man named Jerry Skinner and just a few months later they eloped across the border to Reynosa, Mexico. They were married for 34 years until Jerry’s death in 1994 and had two children Webby Altman Skinner and Denise Lola Skinner.
Gwen and family moved to Lakewood, Colorado in 1962. While in Lakewood she began teaching nursing at St. Joseph Hospital in Denver and earned her Master’s in Education from the University of Northern Colorado in 1973. The family moved back to the Lower Rio Grande Valley in 1975, settling in Pharr. Gwen spent the next 35 years doing something she loved which was teaching nursing at Pan American University. During her time in Pharr, she was also an active member of the local Eastern Star Chapter. Gwen moved to Kerrville in the early 2000s and lived with her two sisters, attending Western Hills Baptist Church and joining the quilt guild.
Gwendolynne is preceded in death by her parents, husband Jerry Skinner and sister LaVerne Altman. Survivors include her children Webby Skinner and Denise Skinner, granddaughter Gina Skinner, sister Myrna Flannery as well many beloved nieces, nephews and grandnieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, September 15, 2025, at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Kerrville, Texas.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday September 16, 2025, at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Kerrville, Texas with Frank Pullin of Western Hills Church officiating. A graveside service and burial will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday September 17, 2025, at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg, Texas.
The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the nurses and staff at Hilltop Village Nursing and Rehab Center in Kerrville for their wonderful care of Gwendolynne while she was a resident.
