Peggy Joyce Mooney
8/13/1933 - 11/10/2025

Peggy Joyce Mooney, 92, of Kerrville, Texas, went home into the loving arms of Jesus on November 10, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was born on August 13, 1933, in San Antonio, Texas to Hoyt and Lena Cavin. She came from a large family that she loved dearly with 6 brothers, Hoyt, Donald, Thomas, Douglas, Wayne and Michael Cavin; and sisters, Billie Jo Shelton and Dorothy Detmar.

She married the love of her life, Dan Mooney Jr., on September 28, 1951, and they were married for 63 years. Her legacy of faith was passed down to her five children, Cheryl Thiltgen and her husband Mike, Danny Mooney, Darlene Hastings and her husband Rob, Wayde Mooney and his wife Karen, and David Mooney and his wife Suzanne. They were blessed with 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grands and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Together they built a life of love.

Peggy served so beautifully in her church. Singing and playing the accordion with her husband Dan, teaching children about Jesus and the word of God in Sunday School and VBS. These were some of her greatest joys in life. She loved people and always had an open home for missionaries, ministers and many others. She was also blessed with an amazing gift of hospitality, cooking and a giving heart.

She was a self-taught and talented artist who did beautiful landscape paintings and drawings. Many of these paintings were gifted through the years to people she loved.

Peggy was preceded in death by her loving husband, Dan Mooney; her son, David Mooney; and her daughter-in-law, Suzanne Mooney.

Our family would like to express our deepest appreciation to Brenda Whittaker and her staff at 220 Harper Assisted Living for providing the most beautiful and loving home for her. We would also like to thank Dr. Young and staff from Peterson Hospice and Palliative care for all the wonderful care she received through the years.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 21, 2025, from 5 -7pm and Celebration of Life service on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 10:00 am at Grimes Funeral Chapels, Kerrville, Texas. Burial will take place on Monday, December 8, 2025, at 11:00 am at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.
