Betty Jane Blackwell

Betty Jane Griffin Blackwell, age 89, went home to be with the Lord on January 10, 2026.
Betty was born on September 23, 1936, in Hunt, TX and lived a life marked by faith, and devotion to family and friends.
On June 5, 1951, Betty married her sweetheart, Dwane Blackwell at Morris Ranch, Texas. Together their marriage was a testimony of commitment and faithfulness.
Betty was an accountant for 52 years, starting her career at Hill Country Savings and Loan where she became a Vice-President. Her career also included San Antonio Savings and Loan, The Powell Company and Rio Co. After her retirement in 2005, she and Dwane moved back to Kerrville where she spent the next 20 plus years continuing her calling as an accountant by serving as a treasurer in many of the different civic groups and organizations she served.
Having made a profession of faith as a child and later as an adult baptized as a believer, Betty knew her eternal home with Jesus was secure.
Betty always loved creating with her hands and was an avid artist who painted pictures of the Hill Country. Bluebonnets, whitetail deer, sunsets and cypress trees along the Guadalupe River were just a few of her favorites. After retirement she found a new passion for quilting, and her quilts quickly became family favorites. One of her quilts last year won her the “Pride of the Texas Hill Country” recognition. As a member of both Vereins Quilt Guild of Fredericksburg and Hill Country Quilt Guild in Kerrville, she used her talents to make quilts for children for the Raphael Clinic. Her love for creating and her desire to teach and mentor others never faded. Betty was working on her last quilt top with her cousin Barbara Goss-Johnston and quilted sweatshirts with her niece Pat O’Connor, when Jesus called her home.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Dwane Blackwell; a child she miscarried; her parents, David Lowell and Eula Jane Griffin; brother, James Lowell Griffin; her nephew, Charles Blackwell; nephew-in-love, David LeMeilleur; and her great-nephew, Nathaniel Rogers.
She is lovingly survived by her nephews, John Blackwell and wife Sue, William Griffin and James Griffin; nieces, Denise Griffin LeMeilleur, Patricia Griffin O’Connor, Theresa Griffin Garcia and husband Ernest, and Linda Griffin Bell and husband Nathan. She is also cherished by her great-nephews and nieces, Bryan LeMeilleur (Raquelle), Chris LeMeilleur, Keith Patrick (Kristin); great-nieces and nephews, Heather Griffin, Will Griffin, Thomas Griffin, Casey O’Connor, Patrick O’Connor, Jonathan Griffin, Tracie Madueno (Arnold), Jessica Garcia, Javier Garcia, Danielle Newton (Desmond), and Adam Bell; and by her great-great-nieces and nephews, Isaac, Gage, Martin, Ace Ryland, Theo, Emerson, Greyson, Pearla, Sofia, and Arthur; and two special women in her life, her cousin, Barbara Goss-Johnston and lifelong friend, Carolyn Woods-Caulkins.
A funeral service honoring Betty's life will be held at Western Hills Baptist Church in Kerrville on Friday, January 23, 2026, at 10am with graveside services immediately following at Garden of Memories Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her great-nephews.
Family and friends are invited to visitation and greetings January 22, 2026 from 4-6 pm at Grimes Funeral Chapels.
Betty’s family wants to thank the nursing and rehab staff at Riverhills Health and Rehab in Kerrville, Davita Dialysis in Kerrville, and Dr’s McDowell and Lockhart and NP Kelly Brandon for the love and care they provided to Betty.
The family request donations to honor Betty be directed to Western Hills Baptist Church or the Christian Women’s Job Corp.
