Curtis Newsom Spearman
2/9/1936 - 1/18/2026
Curtis Newsom Spearman, 89, passed away on January 18, 2026, in Kerrville, Texas.
Born on February 9, 1936, in Spearman, Texas, Curtis was the third of four children born to William Curtis Spearman and Hattie Eulalia Burns Spearman. Raised in Spearman, he graduated from Spearman High School before heading out to build a full and colorful life marked by grit, creativity, and strong work ethic.
Upon graduation from high school, Curtis served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany. Upon returning to the States, Curtis worked as a hairdresser in Highland Park, Dallas, where his talent and flair earned him numerous awards. He later settled in Kerrville, Texas, where he spent most of his adult life and built a respected career as a contractor, creating beautiful homes across the Hill Country.
Curtis was known for being tough, fearless, and just the right amount of ornery—a combination that made him unforgettable to those who loved him. Beneath that exterior was a fiercely loyal friend and family member who showed up when it mattered.
He is survived by his son, Darin Spearman (Tami); his granddaughter, Amanda; his sister, Wilma Francis; Nephew Andy Francis (Darrie), niece Angie Graves (John), nephew Steven Francis (Kim) and niece Patti Gardner; several great nieces and nephews; and many good friends throughout the Kerrville area who will miss his presence and stories.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Frances Park and Shirley Smith.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date in Spearman, Texas.
