Barbara H. Ochs

Barbara Heinemann Ochs (née Hilburn) passed away peacefully on February 12, 2026, in Kerrville, Texas. Born on March 24, 1938, in San Antonio, Texas, Barbara lived a life defined by her deep love for her family, her strong work ethic, and her unwavering faith.

Barbara was born to Elmer Hilburn and Dora Friebe. She married Kermit G. Heinemann on August 1, 1959, in San Antonio, Texas, and together they built a loving family and shared 49 years of marriage until his passing on May 10, 2008. On May 15, 2009, she married Harlin (Ray) Ochs in Kerrville, Texas, where they continued to build a life filled with companionship, and faith.

Barbara enjoyed a diverse and fulfilling professional career. She worked for many years in sales, including real estate, where she was known for her dedication and strong relationships with clients. She also worked at Ricks Furniture, contributed her talents in advertising at ADCO, and was part of the team at Kustom Karpet.

A devout member of Notre Dame Catholic Church, Barbara was deeply involved in her faith community. She volunteered regularly at St. Vincent DePaul and was responsible for organizing the adoration schedule at her church. Her commitment to her faith was evident in her service and participation in church activities.

Barbara was a passionate traveler, enjoying road trips across North America, including visits to Canada and Germany with her family. Her love for gardening was well-known among her friends and family, with her home being a testament to her green thumb--she could keep anything alive, and she was often gifted plants for birthdays and Mother's Days.

Barbara was a devoted and dedicated Nana to her grandchildren. She treasured every opportunity to be part of their lives, faithfully attending their events and cheering them on. When they were younger, she lovingly cared for them, creating special memories that will be cherished forever. She was known for her feisty spirit and strong personality. Barbara was never afraid to share her thoughts and opinions, and her honesty, humor, and strength were part of what made her so special to those who loved her.

She is survived by her husband, Harlin (Ray); daughter, Melissa Schafer LeFevre and husband Doug; grandson, Kyle Schafer and stepson, Charles LeFevre; granddaughter, Ashley Sanchez and husband Jason; great-grandsons; great-granddaughter; sister, Joyce Baker; stepsons, Steven Ochs and wife Vicky, Jeffrey Ochs and wife Michelle; stepdaughter, Teresa Ochs; and several step-grandchildren.

The Rosary will be held at 9:30 AM, followed by Memorial Mass at 10 AM, on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at Notre Dame Catholic Church.
