Brian Keith Machicek, age 52, of Kerrville, passed away on March 30, 2024.

A Rosary and Worship service will be held for him at Grimes Funeral Chapels on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at 2:00 pm, led by Deacon Sonny Kaufhold of Notre Dame Catholic Church. Burial will follow the service at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Kerrville.

Brian was born in San Antonio, Texas to his parents, James and Bernice Machicek at Santa Rosa Hospital on June 5, 1971. He was the fourth of four children: sister, Susan Marie Buie of Fair Oaks Ranch, and brothers, Robert James Machicek and Craig Alan Machicek of Fredericksburg, Texas. Brian loved his siblings and loved when Susan would take him to Mr. Gatti's or Pizza Hut. He also loved to ''cool off.'' Our dear neighbor, Albert Spain, would walk with Brian to the convenience store, and would always buy him a soda. He attended Rogers Middle School where he met his two lifelong friends, Jon Byers and Tommy Rangel. He graduated from Highlands High School in 1989 as a member of the National Honor Society in the top 10[%] of his class. He was a proud Trumpet player for four years in the Fighting Owls Marching Band.

Brian would get his first job with Handy Andy Supermarkets and worked at store #15 in McCreless Mall. He rose through the ranks quickly, becoming a Grocery Manager for the company, working in both the San Antonio and New Braunfels stores.

In 1994, he made the big move to the Texas Hill Country. Kerrville would be his spot on the map. For the next 30 years, first as an employee and then as a Self-Employed Distributor, he would work for Mrs. Bairds Bakeries. If you have bought a loaf of bread in Kerrville in the last 30 years, Brian touched it first. He was dedicated to having the freshest product on the shelf, tirelessly working seven days a week, including holidays.

On January 29, 2002, he married Cynthia Lynn Barton, and they were married for 22 years. Cyndy helped Brian raise two amazing children, Kayla Nicole Machicek and Joshua Blake Machicek. Both Brian and Cyndy devoted themselves to their children. Joshua was honorably discharged from the US Navy and is a veteran. Joshua assumed the responsibility of running Brian's business over the last two months and has truly been a godsend to the entire family. Cyndy and Josh were the caretakers in Brian's last month of life.

''Uncle B,'' as he was commonly known to the family, was the life of the party. He was always joking around, ensuring all family was loved and taken care of. Even if it was not a special occasion, everyone was always welcome. He was very precise about his cooking; briskets, ribs, chicken, you name it, he made it. No one ever left ''Uncle B's'' house hungry.

Brian was taken from us too quickly - only 31 days after we learned of his Pancreatic Cancer diagnosis. The whole family has a gigantic hole in our hearts; his joy, laughter, banter, and love of family will truly be missed.
Brian was preceded in death by his parents, James and Bernice Machicek.

Survivors include his wife, Cyndy; his daughter, Kayla; his son, Joshua; his sister, Susan; brother, Robert (spouse Jeannie); and brother, Craig. Brian has seven nieces and nephews: Tiffany Schneider, Christopher Machicek, Tyler Machicek, Brett Machicek, Sara Machicek, Bailey Buie, and Morgan Buie.

Pallbearers will be Jon Byers, Tommy Rangel, Chris Machicek, Craig Machicek, Simon Garcia, and Pat Tinley.

Memorials may be given to Freeman-Fritts Vet Clinic and Animal Shelter, or to the charity of your choice.

Cyndy, I was so shocked and saddened to read of Brian’s passing in the Daily Times. Unfortunately I didn’t see the obit until today, or I would have been at the service to offer you support and condolences. Please know that I will keep you and your family in my prayers daily. It’s a terrible transition to make, but I pray that you feel God’s love and care for you.
Love,
Betsy

I always remember Susan and I teaching him to tie his shoes at grandmas. Seems like yesterday. Such a loss. Way to soon. May he rest in peace now.
