Velma Lois Davis Cuellar of Kerrville, Texas passed away on May 30, 2024. She was born in Harrison, Arkansas to Bertie and Anna Davis on February 4, 1924. She married Jose Maria (Joe) Cuellar on June 8, 1951 in New York City, NY.

She attended Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas where she graduated with a bachelor's degree in English Education. She used her degree to teach English in Puerto Rico where she and Joe also served as missionaries and evangelists as well as church planters for the Church of Christ. She supported Joe in this work as well as teaching children and women about Jesus in multiple missionary fields including Manhattan, NY, Arecibo, PR, multiple areas in Mexico, and in San Antonio, Texas where they worked with the Metro Church of Christ for many years.

Velma was preceded in death by her husband Jose Cuellar and by her son Benito Cuellar as well as all of her siblings.

Survivors include her son, Rodney Cuellar and his wife Judy and their two sons Connor and Casey; the sons of Benito Cuellar Michael and William and two great-grandchildren Liam and Landan Cuellar; a daughter by heart, Patsy Gutierrez and her children and grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Velma loved all the little babies and delighted in playing with them. Her laughter around children was contagious. She loved her grandchildren, dearly.

The family will observe a private burial at Oak Island Cemetery in San Antonio. A memorial will be held on Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at 5:30 p.m. with a visitation before the memorial at 4:30-5:15. Both will be at the Kerrville Church of Christ, 1900 Loop 534, Kerrville, Texas 78028.

If you feel so inclined, you can donate to the Kerrville Church of Christ missionary work in Ghana to honor her good friends Jerry and Fran Thorton. Or any missionary work dear to your heart. We can't think of a better way to honor Velma, who was a missionary and tireless laborer in the Kingdom, for the bulk of her adult life.

The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Linda Plaster and Fran Thorton for their amazing love and care of Velma in the past three years. We also would like to thank the care of Peterson Hospice and the nurses and attendants at River Hill Health and Rehabilitative Services.
