Wayne strongly believed in helping his fellow man and earned multiple degrees in social work, including a bachelor's degree from The University of Texas and a master's degree from The University of Michigan. He also pursued doctoral studies in social work at The University of Texas, completing all but the dissertation. After years of working as a social worker at various agencies, including the Grafton State School, Denton State School, and the Kerrville State Hospital, Wayne transitioned to painting and home building in the 1980s. He later opened a residential home for people with special needs, playfully named 'Haley Haven.' Following this, he embarked on a new journey, crisscrossing the United States, Mexico, and Canada, taking on long-haul deliveries in a van.
In his final years, Wayne lived in Bandera, Texas and enjoyed spending time with his daughter Vanessa, son Jeff, granddaughter Hazel, and companion Charlotte Stevens. He also spent much of his time visiting and staying in touch with his many friends and family members from coast to coast. He was gregarious in nature and passionate about football, music, food, gardening, and politics.
The family extends their gratitude to the staff at Waterside Nursing & Rehabilitation and Alamo Hospice for their exceptional care during the past two years as Wayne slowly slipped away due to advanced dementia.
Graveside services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Friday, November 1, 2024 at Glen Rest Cemetery 2000 Memorial Blvd, Kerrville, TX 78028.
Memorials may be made to Alamo Hospice, 1232 Bandera Hwy., Kerrville, Texas 78028.

Condolences to Wayne's daughter, Venessa and son, Jeff, granddaughter Hazel and companion, Charlotte Stevens. Wayne and I were great friends and knew each other since Jr. High but also grade school football as we played his team.
One semester we were college roommates at North Texas State. Wayne had a very unique personality which made him so likeable and was fun to be around. The past few years, while he was still able to make calls, Wayne was passionate about talking to his friends. The last 5 years or so I spoke to him almost every day and he would share with me many of his conversations with his other friends, many that I also knew.
He came by our home in Tampa several times when he was delivering something nearby and we did dinner and a spring training game. My wife, Susan said she could tell Wayne was intelligent just talking to him. He was a great friend and person and I have been thinking about the good times with him and our friends. He will be missed by all who knew him!
