William Reed "Billy" Barlow, 89, of Kerrville, Texas, passed away on January 1, 2025. Born to Clyde and Margurite Barlow on October 6, 1935, in Houston, MS, Billy lived a life full of love, laughter, and compassion. He was known for his deep appreciation of music, especially the timeless tunes of Ray Price, and enjoyed dancing to the rhythm of his favorite songs. A man of the outdoors, Billy loved fishing, hunting, and playing golf. He was also known for his great sense of humor and love of fun, always the first to laugh at himself and spread joy to those around him.
Billy was first married to Patty Fertsch in 1959, with whom he had two children, Sally and Stan. In 1981, he married Karen Barclay, with whom he shared a life full of love and devotion, and gained three bonus children: Kim, Kelli, and Kirk. Billy cherished his family dearly, particularly his grandchildren, with whom he loved spending time and babysitting.
After graduating from Tivy High School in Kerrville, TX in 1953, he attended the University of Texas in Austin before embarking on a successful career in the insurance business. Throughout his career, Billy was well-regarded for his dedication to helping others, particularly in securing treatment coverage for La Hacienda and Star Light rehab facilities. His caring nature extended beyond his professional life, as he was a longtime sponsor in Alcoholics Anonymous, offering guidance and support to those seeking recovery.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Margurite Barlow, his beloved wife, Karen Barclay Barlow and his sons Kirk Gearhart, William Stanton Barlow.
Billy is survived by his brother, Clyde (Bubba) Barlow, children, Sally James, Kelli Zahn, and Kim Beal; his grandchildren, Sadie Van Klavern, Nathan Williams, Montanna Beal, Whitney Barlow, Grant James, and Logan James; his great-grandchildren, Avery, Taylor, and Eleanor; and numerous other relatives and friends who cherished him deeply. Remembering a very longtime friend is filled with treasured memories. He was definitely a leader in high school and was always the life of gathering. Most of all Billy helped me with my mother who was an alcoholic. I would not have gotten through some very difficult times without his support. May God comfort you and give you peace now and always.
