Rebecca Beckwith Purl
6/8/1944 - 1/26/2025
Rebecca Beckwith Purl, lovingly known to all as “Happy,” was born on June 8, 1944 in Mercedes, Texas, and passed peacefully on January 26, 2025 in Kerrville, Texas, at the age of 80. Her life was a testament of love, faith, and unwavering joy, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her.
On July 19, 1963, Becky married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Gordon. Their union of almost 62 years was a beautiful example of enduring love and partnership.
Happy’s legacy is carried on by those who cherished her most, those she lovingly called her “chickens”: her devoted husband, Gordon Purl; her beloved daughters Caryn Talarico (Jeff) and Amy Rector (Riley); her precious granddaughters Caitlyn Hall (Michael), Rebekah Knape (James), and Maggie and Molly Rector; her great-granddaughter Mary Harper; her brother Art Beckwith (Nan); and numerous nieces and nephews.
Happy was a woman of deep faith and passion, living a life dedicated to serving the church and her family. She served her church honorably on the vestry and the school board. Becky also loved her Friday afternoons working in the Cottage Shop. Her real passion was co-leading the Path of Life Bible study with Betty Mosty. She loved guiding others on their spiritual journey with wisdom and grace. Her love for Christ and His church was evident in all she did, and her unwavering dedication inspired those around her.
Known for her radiant smile and nurturing spirit, Happy had the gift of making everyone feel loved and valued. Her home was a place of warmth, laughter, and delicious meals, where family and friends gathered to create numerous cherished memories.
Her legacy of love, faith, and service will live on through the lives she touched. Happy’s family finds comfort in knowing she is now in the arms of Jesus, hearing the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
A celebration of Becky’s life will be held at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church on Friday, January 31st at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church or St. Peter’s Episcopal School in Becky’s memory.
Happy will forever be remembered for her vibrant spirit, her steadfast faith, and the joy she brought to all who knew her. She lived up to her name, bringing happiness wherever she went, and her light will continue to shine in our hearts.
