Kathryn F. Broadway Thompson, age 95, passed away September 4, 2014. Kathryn was born in Center, TX on November 26, 1918, to Robert Francis Broadway and Lily Mae Williams Broadway. She grew up in Trinity and Houston TX, attending San Jacinto High School in Houston and then Rice University, graduating at age 20, and later achieved a Masters degree in Library Science at the University of Denver. Kathryn was a science teacher and librarian for Houston ISD, and then administrator for Media Services for the Spring Branch ISD. Upon their retirements, she and husband Bill moved to the Bandera area to start a small cattle ranch, Serendip, located along the Medina River. They later moved to Bandera and then to Kerrville.\r\n\r\nKathryn had a wonderful and long life, full of family and friends, travel, education, and service. She married the love of her life, William Stone Thompson, in December, 1941. She was a successful businesswoman, a good daughter, mother, grandmother, teacher and friend. Kathryn was active in the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, the Republican Party, voter registration, and volunteered many hours at the Bandera Library. She had a keen interest in genealogy and helped identify ancestors in both sides of her family. She was an avid reader, traveled extensively and enjoyed many Elder Hostel programs.\r\n\r\nKathryn was preceded in death by her husband. She is survived by her daughter Kathryn T. Cathey (husband Bill Cathey), of Kerrville, TX, and daughter Frances T. Shure of Denver, CO, and grandchildren Mary Ann Cathey ONeill (Roger Caminiti) of Las Vegas NV, and Joel A. Shure (Chris) of Denver, CO, as well as two great-grandchildren.\r\nOne of Kathryns favorite quotes is the following: How very special are we, for just a moment, to be a part of lifes eternal rhyme, from Charlottes Web. Kathryn would want family and friends to raise a cheerful toast to her, to not be sad, and to try to make your life as interesting, in a responsible way, as you can. She gives her love and thanks to all those who were part of her life. Burial will be a private family time and take place at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston, TX.\r\n\r\nKathryns family thanks River Point of Kerrville, Dr. Don Murrmann, and Gentiva Hospice for their good and loving care of Kathryn. The family suggests that any memorials be made to the Bandera Library.
