Robert Allen Gardner, Jr. of Bandera, TX, died of natural causes at his home, August 12th.

Allen was born in Orange, TX, on January 24th, 1943, to Dr. Robert Allen Gardner and his wife, Bette. He was a graduate of Lamar HS in Houston and the University of Texas at Austin, where he earned an MBA. He was twice president of the Tau chapter of the Kappa Sigma fraternity.

He married Sharon Hudiburg in 1966 and loved her to the end of his days.

Mr. Gardner earned the Bronze Star for meritorious service as a Captain in the Medical Service Corps of the US Army during the Vietnam War. He went on to a successful, forty-year career as a financial advisor for Blyth, Eastman Dillon & Co., PaineWebber & Co., and UBS Financial Services Inc.

An avid outdoorsman, Mr. Gardner was an accomplished deer hunter and an enthusiastic collector of Native American arrowheads. True to his roots, he had a deep love of Texas blues music and BBQ. Among other things, friends and family will fondly remember Allen for his unusual sense of humor that kept everyone off balance and in stitches.

Allen is survived by his wife Sherri, his daughter Lyn, his son Bobby, his brother Jim, his sister Sally, and their families. He was preceded in death by his daughter Beth.

A Celebration of Life will be held at his home in Bandera at 4:00 PM Saturday, August 21st. Comfortable dress is encouraged; suits are prohibited.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to donate to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.

"Dear Sherri,
Yesterday, I returned home from a trip to Maryland to visit my youngest brother, Matthew. While there, we drove to our old neighborhood in Arlington where I took pictures of the home we lived in at 305 S. Fenwick St. I also took photos of the home you lived in on the corner of 2nd and Garfield. I sent the photos to Bill. Of course, the photos prompted many sweet memories of our childhood time with you. Bill discovered your husband's obituary. We are so very sorry for your loss and send love and condolences to you and your children.

Bill will celebrate his 80th birthday on May 29. He lost his beloved wife to breast cancer in March 2016, and has since met a nice woman named Lilly. They seem well-suited to each other, so I am happy he is happy. I will be flying to Eureka to help him celebrate.

Here is our contact information. We would be thrilled to hear from you one way or another.
