Richard Irvin Dill (88), area resident, passed away October 13, 2022 in Kerrville, Texas. Born January 31, 1934 in Bixby, Oklahoma, Richard was raised in the Bixby community and graduated from Bixby High School in 1952. After high school, Richard faithfully served several years in the Army National Guard of Oklahoma. He attained the rank of Sergeant E-7 and was honorably discharged upon completion of service.

July 1, 1956, Richard married the love of his life, Barbara Dean Mitchell, at the First United Methodist Church in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. For many years, the couple resided in Tulsa, Oklahoma and together raised two sons, Brian Dean Dill born in 1965, and Rian Irvin Dill born in 1970. A former high school basketball star, Richard relished raising his sons to love sports and critique of game strategy. Always dutiful, Richard deftly found solutions to the worst of logistic and luggage challenges created by his beloved Barbara’s need to be prepared for anything. Employed for 36 years with Southwestern Bell in Tulsa, Richard retired in the late 1980s as a company telecommunications supervisor. Ever devoted to their family, Richard and Barbara moved to Texas in 2002 to be closer to their sons’ families, ultimately settling here in the Kerrville community. They enjoyed spending time with their children, grandchildren, and area friends.

Richard was married to his beloved wife Barbara Dean Dill for 58 years until her passing in 2014. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Jessie and Edith Dill. Family members who survive him include son Brian Dill and wife Judy (Atlanta, GA), son Rian Dill and wife Christy (Kerrville, TX), grandchildren Alex Dill (Dallas, TX), McKenzie Dill (Mansfield, TX), Riley Dill (Kerrville, TX), Rebecca Dill (Atlanta, GA), sister Barbara Boone (Mounds, OK), and several nephews and nieces.

A visitation will be held at 9:00 am on Thursday, October 20, 2022 at Grimes Funeral Chapels, followed by a memorial service officiated by Rev. David Payne of the First United Methodist Church of Kerrville. Mr. Dill will be laid to rest next to his wife in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Lew McCoy, Jared Hunt, D.R. Coleman, Andy Clark, Charlie DeAx, and Bryan Devaney.

The family wishes to extend its sincere thanks to the Kerrville EMT and Emergency Room staff, Dr. Curry and Texan staff, Amy Ives and the Peterson Hospice staff, Alpine Nursing Facility, and Grimes Funeral Chapels.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask that any that donations go to Peterson Hospice in honor of Richard Dill.
