Maria Cervantes Garces, 92 years old, of Kerrville, TX, passed away on October 13, 2022. She was born in Nixon, TX to Sotero and Jesusa Ozuna Cervantes on September 25, 1930. She married Amado Garces Sr. on February 27, 1967 in San Antonio, TX.
She is a 1950 graduate of Tivy High School. In her younger years, she was a seamstress in San Antonio making military uniforms. She moved to back to Kerrville and worked at the Kerrville Telephone Company as a telephone operator. She joined her husband, Amado, in opening Amado’s Shoe Shop in Kerrville. He was the shoe repairman, and she did all the sewing. She attended Calvary Baptist Church where she was the treasurer for over 30 years. She enjoyed playing and watching softball and loved to fish.
Maria was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sisters, Victoria Ayala and Juanita Klein; and brother, Francisco Cervantes Sr.
Maria is survived by her children, Lydia Castillo and spouse, Ricardo Castillo, Ernesto Delgado Jr. and Christina Garces; siblings, Rafela Garza and Madgalena Jones; grandchildren, Christopher De La Cruz, Crystal Graham, Hayden Jimenez and Mikalya Jimenez; great-grandchildren, Alexis Alvarado, Mercedes Alvarado, Camelia Santiago, Bo Graham, Sean Jimenez, Gabriel De La Cruz and Caleb Ray De La Cruz.
Visitation will be 5-7 pm, Monday, October 17, 2022, at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Kerrville.
Graveside services will be held at 1 pm, Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at Garden of Memories Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to any hospice of your choice.
