Lewis Charles Leifeste, 88 years old, of Kerrville, Texas, passed away on August 7, 2023, in Kerrville, Texas after a brief illness. A fourth generation Texan, he was born in a small community in Fayette County, Texas near Swiss Alp on January 27th, 1935.

He was the youngest of four children of Sam and Alma Giese Leifeste, his father being a country schoolteacher when the one room schoolhouses were prevalent.

Lewis grew up doing regular farm chores from dairy work to cotton, corn and hay baling, the usual country boy stuff with a little bit of sneaking off to the fishing hole when the elders took afternoon naps. After finishing school in La Grange, he worked in Houston for many years where he met his wife, Betty Oliphint. They were married in June of 1955. They eventually retired to the beautiful Hill Country of Texas where Lewis’ great-grand parents immigrated in the 1850’s.

He was preceded in death by his wife Betty, his mother Alma Giese Leifeste and father Sam, two sisters Gladys Boening and Doris Clark, and one brother C.C. (Clarence) Leifeste.

Lewis leaves behind his three children Dan, James, and Sandy (Reyna). Grandchildren include Holly and husband Andy Edgerton, Zachary and wife Sarah, Joshua Leifeste, Jacob and Will Leifeste Moore. Great-grandchildren include Ace and Aylen. Nieces include Dianna Potter and Debra Leifeste. Nephews include Ralph Clark and Douglas Leifeste, plus numerous good friends in the Woods subdivision of Kerrville.

A private celebration of his wonderful life will be held at a later date.

The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the nursing staff at Peterson Regional Medical Center, especially Whitney and Crystal for taking such good care of him in his last several days. They treated him like a member of their own family. Their care and attention made all the difference and helped us through such a difficult time.

This place will not be the same without you Old Scutter, however, we will raise a cold one for you out at your barn and help put that sun to bed.
