Carolyn Sue Reid, 84, of Leander Texas, passed away on Friday, January 19, 2024 in Marble Falls, Texas. She was born in Pampa, Texas to Franklin and Mildred Baer on July 9, 1939.

She graduated from Dumas High School in Dumas, Texas in 1957. Following graduation she attended West Texas A&M, where she graduated with an elementary education degree in 1960. While at West Texas A&M, she met the love of her life, James “Jim” A. Reid and they got married on June 18, 1960. She worked as a teacher for many years at Kerrville ISD, Dumas ISD, Ingram ISD, and Tilden ISD.

Carolyn was the picture-perfect, Proverbs 31 wife. She loved her husband dearly and enjoyed watching him coach basketball. She was one to always be found either in the kitchen, their garden, or at the basketball gym watching her three children play basketball and follow in the family business to become coaches. She loved and supported her five grandchildren as they played and coached various sports.

She was married to Jim for 42 years and was active in her church. She loved the Lord and was always looking for ways to serve those around her. She never knew a stranger. Her love was always shown through good food, lingering hugs, and a welcome smile.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her father, Frankie Baer; her mother, Mildred Baer; and husband Jim Reid.

Survivors include children, Gari Lord, Kelly Witte, and Jim and Brooke Reid; sister, Vicki and John Walker; grandchildren, Blair and Justin Johnson, Zach Lord, Jace Reid, Sydney Reid, and Cort Reid.

Visitation will be on Sunday, January 28, 2024 at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Kerrville, Texas from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, January 29, 2024 at Garden of Memories in Kerrville, Texas.

"Gari, Kelly, And Jim,
Where do I start to say such great things about your loving mother??? From the very first day I met your mom at our basketball team meeting, she was the most caring , and truly loving woman with the biggest heart. I will never ever forget when during basketball practice one evening , I so graciously bit my tongue from defending a fellow teammate and started bleeding . Coach Reid, looked at me and my injury and said go rinse it out in the locker room and head on home …
So, I went home and not 15 mins later, I had Coach Reid on my front doorstep telling me that I needed to go to the hospital.. come to find out Coach had spoken to Mrs Reid about the incident and she told him that he needed to get up to my house and check on me.. Coach always told me that she was the one that wore the pants in the family and he always listened to her … WELL, she was right .. I ended up with 12 stitches… She truly was the foundation of your family and I truly hope that Gari, Kelly and Jim know that we were blessed to have your parents as coaches and teachers… Coach Reid and Mrs Reid taught both myself and my younger brother many things that we cherish today - tenacity, success, perseverance and most importantly love and kindness. It just so happens, that I lost my mom the same week as Ms. Reid’s passing, so this is really tough for me to write. I truly understand your loss but I also know that your wonderful mom won’t be forgotten. Thank you to you guys for having such great parents with hearts that were as big as Texas and for the opportunity to be a part of your extended family.. They both truly made an impact on hundreds of lives and it’s obvious that their legacy is living brightly through you guys and all of us that they adopted into their teams ;) I will especially miss your mom’s great home cooking…. I always knew when I would go over to coach’s for basketball or to hang out with Jim there was going to be something wonderful that your mom just whipped up quickly as she would say.. Peace be with your mom, and of course Coach Reid, and to the rest of the family….Take care …"
