Charles Richard Barger, 90, of Kerrville, died November 22, 2024. He was born Sept. 24, 1934, in Quincy, Ohio, to Carl and Ada (Elliot) Barger. He graduated from Northridge High School, where he was an active member of the marching band, along with his sister, Carol. Charles served in the Air National Guard, the U.S. Air Force, and the United States Marine Corps, and remained a proud and patriotic American. He married Evelyn Austin on July 3, 1958. They lived for many years in the Dayton, Ohio, area, where Charles had a long career working for Universal Tool, and they ran a small farm together. They decided to retire to a warmer climate and settled in Kerrville in the 1990s. The area suited them well, and they enjoyed living in the Hill Country and being closer to family members.

Charles enjoyed playing the trumpet, woodworking, painting, reading, and serving as a deacon in his church, First Baptist Church Kerrville. He was a faithful member of the choir and orchestra at First Baptist, playing his trumpet on Sunday mornings until he was nearly 90. Charles also served his community as a Boy Scout leader and a Little League coach, and was an avid fan of his grandsons’ sports endeavors.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Ada Barger; a sister, Bonnie McCartney; and a stepson, Coy Lee Keller. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; a brother, Ralph Barger; a sister, Carol Lampman; two stepsons, Steve Keller of San Antonio and Pat Keller (Susan Foster) of Scottsdale, Ariz.; two daughters, Sharon Noah (Doug) of Midland and Catherine Kinnison (Joe) of Kerrville; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Charles will be held on Tuesday, December 3, at 11:00 a.m., at First Baptist Church, Kerrville, Texas, officiated by Rev. James Ervin. Burial will be at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio on Wednesday, Dec. 4, at 10:45 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to FBC Kerrville or the charity of your choice.

"Dear Evelyn & family:
Your loss is shared by many individuals who have known you since your arrival in Kerrville. You and Charles lived, loved and laughed in your home and church on many occasions to worship the Lord , encouraging others and in times of fellowship when we played games using beautiful furniture Charles' created. Together, Evelyn, you and Charles blessed our lives as a team endowed to serve others! Keep the SON in your eyes!"
