Our beloved family member Jeanne Thompson, age 85, of Kerrville, passed away on October 6th, 2025, after a long battle with cancer. She was born January 25, 1940 in the Canal Zone to Harold and Clara Chambers, graduated from Christobal HS in the CZ, and then earned her B.A. in Education from the University of North Texas. That’s where she met the love of her life, Dr. Jeff Thompson. They married on September 3, 1960, and had two children, Jeffrey Thompson and Janene Thompson Lain; she is survived by all three.

Jeanne got her Masters in Mathematics from Angelo State University and lived her professional life as a math teacher, giving 40+ years to instructing and helping students, almost all of which was spent at Tivy High School. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Kerrville for many decades, and also volunteered as sponsor to various student groups through the years.

When she retired, she spent a good deal of time doing extensive genealogy research, both for her family, and to assist others across the country who needed help. She was a proud grandmother and great-grandmother to, and is survived by, Jeffrey’s three children, Taylor Thompson Dortch (husband Jake), Matthew Thompson, and Lauren Thompson, and to Janene and husband Travis’ three children, Jamie Lain Pedron (husband Jordan and daughter Hope), Brady Lain (wife Lauren, and children Jesse, Hazel, Eden, and Millie), and Avery Lain. She is also survived by her sister, Alice Wiedenhoff.

A memorial service in her honor will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Kerrville on October 17, 2025, at 10:30 a.m.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Rebecca Barrington and staff for the outstanding medical care they gave Jeanne over many years, and to nurse Jill, along with her additional Peterson Hospice caregivers and staff. They also ask that, in lieu of flowers, any remembrance be directed to the Dietert Center in Kerrville, or to the American Cancer Society.

"As a high school kid, I had no comprehension or clue the true commitment and choice being a teacher takes every day. I was pained by the level of performance and attention to detail expected of students. In hindsight, I learned so much more than mathematics. Thank you for dedicating your life to kids like me."
