Marianne Remschel of Kerrville passed away April 30, 2026, at the age of 96. She was born November 12, 1929, in Houston, Texas to Jack Leland and Mary Louise Duke. She spent much of her youth moving around south and west Texas, but spent the prime of her life in Del Rio. There, she made life-long friends. One of those friends introduced her to her future husband, Henry “Rique” Remschel while they were in college at Kingsville A&I (now part of the A&M system).
Rique and Marianne were married on August 21, 1950. Rique was the love of her life and she had many wonderful and funny stories from their life of 58 years together. They went on to have four children and moved around Texas with his job at Exxon. They landed in Dallas in 1966, spending the longest time in one place there. Again, a little community of life-long friends were made over the 17 years there. After retiring from Exxon, they moved back to Rique's hometown of Kerrville in 1983.
For most of Marianne's adult life, she was a homemaker raising those four children. She was known as Mommy, Mother and Mom to her children and Ama to the grandkids. She loved each of the children and grandchildren equally, but knew them as the individuals they are and knew how to relate to each of them. She taught them to love their individuality and each other. It is a testament to Rique's and her parenting that they leave behind a closeknit family. She was the most loving and supportive daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother along with being a caregiver to several family members over the years.
She owned a bookstore in Dallas for a few years with her best friend, Mary Ann Sorensen. She loved that store as she absolutely loved books. After selling the store and moving to Kerrville, she became a representative for BookMates, a device to hold paperback books that she had sold at her store. She and Rique travelled around Texas in their RV, selling BookMates to the small stores in small towns. Again, it wasn't a job, but something she loved to do.
Besides books, Marianne had lots of hobbies throughout her years such as sewing and other crafty things, researching and preparing horoscopes for her loved ones, playing the piano, researching and playing the stock market, doing crossword puzzles, watching the birds and wildlife in her yard and watching all kinds of movies, tv shows and theatre productions. She loved to travel, be it in an RV, cruising or flying to and fro. She could also tell a good story and was often told that she needed to write a book.
Marianne was very spiritual all her life and involved in the church community when she was younger. Later in life, she became involved in a way she knew she could by becoming philanthropic in the community, from churches and ministry-driven organizations to community organizations. Her pride and joy was the scholarship she set up through KPSF after her beloved Rique passed away in 2008. The Henry H “Rique” Remschel scholarship has become the biggest scholarship for Kerrville Public School Foundation to be awarded each year.
Marianne is going to be missed by so many family and friends. She is survived by her children: Hank Remschel (Cynthia), Robin Fagan (Michael), Suzy McClure (Craig) and Laurie Remschel; her grandchildren, Jessica McClure, Emily Phillips (Corey), Hart Remschel, Wesley Remschel (Rachel) and MaryRose Fagan; her great-grandchildren, Henry, Harper and Harold Remschel and Allen Remschel. There are many nephews and nieces and surrogate children/grandchildren that will miss her as well.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Marianne Love Duke Remschel Foundation Fund through the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country. These funds will be distributed to local organizations that Marianne supported. Contributions may also be made to the Henry H “Rique” Remschel Scholarship Fund through the Kerrville Public School Foundation. Both of these organizations can be found online.
