Loren Douglas Lusk went to join the Lord on May 19, 2026. He was born January 13, 1935, in Melvern, Kansas, the last of six children born to Howard and Emma Lusk. Shortly after, the family moved to Olivet, Kansas. He lived there in what Doug considered to be his “very small hometown, a great place to grow up,” until he graduated from the University of Kansas in 1957.
After receiving his Master of Science degree in Geology from the University of Michigan in 1958, he moved to San Angelo, Texas to begin work in Exploration for Standard Oil Company of Texas. After a short while there he served a stint in the Army and returned to work in Midland where he met and married the love of his life, Linda Kay, daughter of JT and Oleta Darsey.
His family was graced by their children: daughter Linda Suzanne, and son Jeffrey Douglas.
In his 37-year career with Chevron, Doug and Linda moved from Midland to Roswell, to Houston, to Oklahoma City, to Denver, to Walnut Creek and on to their final stop in Kerrville, Texas. Doug spent about half his career in domestic locations. The rest was spent on assignment in various foreign countries. Though he and Linda never lived permanently in any of those foreign locations, he traveled extensively while Linda did an amazing job of taking care of home and family while he was away.
Doug was a person of varied interests. As Linda was fond of saying, “he golfed with the golfers, hunted with the hunters, fished with the fishermen, and took pictures of all of it as he went along”.
He also had an interest in writing, and at the stimulation and request of his kids, set down stories of growing up in his very small hometown. He also wrote poetry, largely spiritual in nature…an outgrowth of his strong faith. He gives credit to two of his Pastors, Dr. George Harris formerly of First Baptist Church Kerrville, and John Wheat of Trinity Baptist Church for inspiration, and mostly to his family for their unwavering support.
After Linda's passing, he dedicated himself to his singing, writing and life within Trinity Baptist Church. He spent time within the grief share group, the church choir and Prime Time singers, the quartet, and the traveling Singing men of Southern Texas. His was proud and pleased to create and publish his works of poetry and stories, and to provide devotionals at Trinity.
In his later years, he gave thought to his final journey, partly recorded here:
I’M COMING HOME
The comfort of a heart at rest,
A soul at peace, and truly blessed;
From pain and worry I am free,
A gift from Thee.
Thank you for Your tender care,
Your endless love and saving grace;
For fears relieved and swept away,
I give You praise.
Blessed Lord, I worship You,
Abiding faith I owe to Thee;
My life is Yours ere what may come,
Thy will be done.
I’ve heard Your call, the time has come,
To be with You forever more;
Through faith in You and You alone,
I’m coming home.
Doug was preceded in Death by his parents, his brothers Perry, Keith, Deane and sister Esther, as well as his darling wife Linda and grandson Chris.
