Mary Ann Zimmerhanzel, 82, of Kerrville, Texas, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by love on May 29, 2026. Mary Ann was born to John and Mary (Senak) Svetkovich in Greensburg, Pennsylvania.

Mary Ann graduated from Hempfield Area High School in the Greensburg, PA area and went on to work as a bookkeeper for a local company. She maintained this focus throughout her life, always keeping meticulous accounting records.

It was while out dancing that she met the love of her life, John E. Zimmerhanzel, a native Texan. They were wed on June 5, 1965, in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, and went on to build a beautiful life together. After eventually settling in Texas, Mary Ann dedicated her early years to being a loving homemaker, creating a warm environment for her growing family.

Mary Ann was an avid reader dedicating each morning to Bible study and enjoying countless fiction novels. She also made a habit of working sudoku puzzles in her free time. Mary Ann was defined by her remarkably generous spirit and an enduring commitment to community service. She poured her heart into the Texas Hill Country in countless ways, including 22 years of dedicated service with the Peterson Health Auxiliary, volunteering at the Hill Country Youth Ranch Thrift Shop, and sharing her faith with children through the Good News Club at Kerrville Bible Church. At home, she expressed her love through food, famously preparing incredible meals and baked goods that brought her family together. Her soft-spoken voice, gentle spirit, and radiant smile will be forever cherished by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

She was reunited in heaven with her beloved husband of 37 years, John E. Zimmerhanzel, and her parents, John and Mary Svetkovich.

Her legacy lives on through her devoted children: son Mark Zimmerhanzel and his wife Beth of Naples, Italy; and daughter Melissa Stroud and her husband Steve of Lampasas, Texas.

Mary Ann was also blessed with two surviving siblings who loved her dearly: her brother John Svetkovich (Susan) of Greensburg, Pennsylvania, and her sister Barbara Prince of Lynchburg, Virginia.

As Mary Ann grew closer to the end of her earthly journey, she expressed profound joy, pride, and peace in her beloved grandchildren: Eric Lobue-Zimmerhanzel (Chesli), Matthew Stroud (Tyraina), David Zimmerhanzel (Raine), John Stroud, Nicholas Zimmerhanzel, Jacob Zimmerhanzel, and Drew Zimmerhanzel.

She also leaves behind three precious great-grandchildren who brought immense light to her life: Greyson, Brynley, and Riley Stroud.

A memorial service celebrating Mary Ann's beautiful life will be held on June 8, 2026 at 11:00am at Kerrville Bible Church in Kerrville, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in her honor to the Hill Country Youth Ranch or Kerrville Bible Church, two organizations very close to her heart.
