Gail Ann Schmitt, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, cousin, sister-in-law, dear friend, and faithful servant of God, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2026, at the age of 81.

Born on February 9, 1945, Gail lived a life grounded in faith, family, and service. A devoted Catholic, she was known for her kindness, generosity, and quiet strength. Her faith guided her life and was reflected in the compassion she showed to everyone she met.

Gail shared 61 loving years of marriage with her husband, Lonnie Schmitt. Together they built a family that was the center of her life. She was a devoted mother to Tim (Mary Anne), Tom (Michele), and Paul (Terra), and she cherished her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought her great joy and pride.

In her career, Gail worked in child care management and later in Human Resources while living in the Houston area. After moving to Kerrville, she continued serving others through her work in administration at Our Lady of the Hills. She also served on the school council at Notre Dame Catholic School and volunteered with Meals on Wheels through the Dietert Center, generously sharing her time and talents.

Above all, Gail treasured time with her family. She found joy in bringing loved ones together, celebrating life’s milestones, and offering encouragement and care to those around her. Her legacy is one of faith, compassion, generosity, and steadfast love.

The family will receive visitors from 5:00-6:00PM on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at Grimes Funeral Chapels with a Rosary to follow. A Funeral Mass celebrating Gail’s life will be held on Friday, August 7, 2026, at 10:00AM at Notre Dame Catholic Church. Private interment at Garden of Memories in Kerrville will take place at a later date.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the caring staff of Menger Springs Cibolo House, Alamo Hospice, and Touch by Private Angels for the compassion and kindness they provided during Gail’s final days.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Parkinson’s Foundation, The Kerrville Dietert Center, or Summer Dreams in Hunt, Texas

Gail will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in the peace of Christ.
