Dorthy Christeen Flores (Cree/Nuna) was not only known as a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and lovingly cherished great-great-grandmother, she was also a faithful aunt, and a devoted friend. She entered the presence of our Lord and Savior on Wednesday, August 19th.

She was welcomed into heaven by her parents, Jim and Beaula Council, as well as her husband Charles “Tunnie” Flores, siblings; Dewayne Council, Margie Council Evans, Butch Council, and her grandson Kevin David Russ.

She was born in Tishomingo, Oklahoma on July 22, 1934, and grew up in Kerrville, Texas.

Cree had a strong religious faith that was taught to her by her loving parents as a child and throughout her adult life. She was a member of Faith Christian Church.  Her life was a beautiful testimony of faith, love, family, friendship, and service.

She will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends for the joy she brought into every gathering and for the countless memories she created throughout her life. She treasured her Thursday night suppers with her dear widow friends, Friday game night, and the fellowship of family and friends. She loved making memories with those she loved, including a special trip to the Holy Land, a ten-day family journey across the United States, trips to Hawaii, family reunions, and, yes, many memorable trips to the casinos. Above all, she cherished the big family gatherings where everyone could come together, laugh, visit, eat, and simply enjoy being with one another.

Her kitchen was another place where her love could be felt. She was famously known for her banana pudding, along with her macaroni salad and wonderful enchiladas. Many have tried to replicate her recipes, but no one has ever been able to duplicate the special taste—or, more importantly, the love—that she put into every dish. Her food was more than something to eat; it was a way she showed her family how deeply she loved them.

One of the most treasured traditions was Sunday morning breakfast shared with her family. Those mornings became precious memories that continue to live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to sit around her table. Even today, her family continues to share those breakfasts, keeping alive a tradition that began with her and the love she poured into her family.

She was also well known for her loving care of the children in her family. She helped watch, nurture, guide, and love them as they grew, remaining a constant and comforting presence in their lives. She did not simply care for them—she helped shape them, loved them, prayed for them, and watched with pride as they grew into adulthood.

Her greatest legacy is the love she gave so freely to over four generations. Her family was her greatest joy, and her faith was her foundation. The love she planted in the hearts of her family and friends will continue to grow for generations to come.

Though she has been called home to be with her Lord and Savior, her love, her laughter, her faith, her traditions, and the memories she created will remain forever in the hearts of all who were blessed to know and love her.

She is survived by her children, Alton (wife Irma) Flores, Cindy (husband Rudy) Russ and Stephen (wife Debbie) Flores; five grandchildren, Jason (wife Jamie) Flores, Sissy (husband Mike) Harvey, Mike (wife Kim) Russ, Katie (husband Kyle) Ingram and Karen (husband Brad) James; eleven great-grandchildren, Colton Flores, Cierra Arredondo, Bailey Arredondo, Peyton (wife Sarah) Russ, Isabelle Russ, Truly Russ, Tyler Ingram, Brady Ingram, Harper Ingram, Mackenzie (husband Ryan) Gadbois and Charlotte James; two great-great-grandchildren, Caroline Russ and August “Auggie” Bremseth; and sister-in-law, Mary Jane Council.

A private family graveside service will be held at Sunset Cemetery in Mt. Home, Texas on Sunday August 23rd.

Memorials may be given in her honor to the Peterson Hospice of the Wounded Warriors, or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
