On October 21, 2026, at the age of 84, Joseph (Joe) Benedick, told his family when he closed his eyes he saw a tunnel and light that wasn’t very bright, because it wasn’t his time yet, but when it shone brighter, it would be his time for him to walk toward it. Just a few hours later, Joe (Pop) took his final journey to be with the Lord.

Joseph Benedick was born in Cleveland, Ohio to Joseph and Florence Benedick on August 26, 1942. He married Nancy Benedick on June 3, 2001 in Houston, Texas. After working as a heavy equipment mechanic for 15 years, Joe retired. Joe and Nancy settled in Kerrville, Texas in 2009.

He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving three tours of duty in the Army and was awarded a Citation of Army Commendation First Oak Leaf cluster Medal for bravely volunteering to remain in the line of fire to assist and protect a seriously wounded comrade. Other medals received included, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Expert Badge (Rifle) Medal.

Joseph enjoyed working with his hands, he spent his time building and planting around the house. He was incredibly proud of his family and loved spending time with them. To his family he was known as Pop. He had a good sense of humor that made people smile. He loved big, in a quiet and grumbling way. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Florence; his stepfather, Ronnie Shreffler; his sisters, Mary Margaret, Saundra Wilson; and his eldest daughter, Angie Taylor.  Joseph is survived by his loving wife Nancy; his son Nick (Angela); daughters, Tina Moore (Tony), Kimberly Mayben; his brothers, Robert and Thomas; grandchildren, Kourtnie (Larry) MacNeil, Corban (Liz) Moore, Taylor (Ashton) Jones, Riley Mayben, Kenley Mayben, Sofia Walker-Benedick, C.J.
