Mary Aline Blackburn
5/14/1945 - 6/10/2024

Mary Aline Blackburn, 79, of Ingram, TX, passed away on June 10, 2024, in Kerrville. She was surrounded by her family.

A beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Mary was born on May 14, 1945, in San Angelo to Edmund F. Grice and Aline Cockburn Grice. She married George Hazel in 1965 and they had one daughter, Christie, in 1967. In 1981, Mary met the love of her life, Bobby Don Blackburn, and they were married that same year at the Inn of the Hills in Kerrville. She became the bonus mom to Brian Roy Blackburn, and the family began a new life together in Manassas, Virginia.

Mary graduated from San Angelo Central High School and then San Angelo College where she earned her early education degree. She was a teacher in Veribest and Eola until she moved to Kerrville in 1978. She also taught dance, music, and piano and produced countless school performances.

During the late 1970s, Mary was an early joiner of the fitness movement and, upon moving to Kerrville, opened The Trim Shop, a boutique women’s fitness salon located in the Inn of Hills. After moving to Virginia, Mary spent many years operating fitness-related establishments. In 1994, Mary and Bobby returned to the Kerrville area, where they enjoyed many wonderful years of retirement.

Mary was known for her lust for life and giving to others. She loved to travel, experience new places and foods, and meet new friends during her adventures. She had a particular love for the people and places of Mexico. She played the piano and accordion and was often known for breaking into song at her many social gatherings at her home and community or singing along to Broadway tunes and dancing to the sounds of Mariachis.

Mary gave her time and resources to many individuals in her life and was passionate about helping people. She loved animals and wildlife and made many cats, donkeys, cows, deer, and countless others feel at home on the ranch she loved.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Aline Grice; stepfather, Louis Blanek; mother-in-law, Smitty Blackburn; father-in-law, Howard Blackburn; beloved aunt and uncle, Ruth and Ed Hamilton and their son, Jon Hamilton, whom Mary loved as a brother; and adored aunts and uncles, Audrey and George Ard and Nevada Blackburn.

Survivors include her spouse of almost 43 years, Bobby; daughter and son-in-law, Christie and Greg Teller; son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Sherry Blackburn; six beloved grandchildren, Alec Teller, Nicole Teller, Jack Teller, Brandon Blackburn, Josh Blackburn, and Justin Horrell; first cousins, Sandy Hamilton and Dale Dodson and their families; and many other beloved cousins and friends whom Mary loved as family.

The loss of Mary is a profound one, felt deeply by all who knew and loved her. Mary's memory will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to have her in their lives.

Visitation will be held from 1:00-1:30 PM, with a celebration of life following at 1:30 PM, on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Kerrville, TX.
