William A. (Tink) Taylor, age 74, of Harper, TX, passed away on June 28, 2021. He was born in San Antonio, TX to John and Grayce Taylor on April 8, 1947. He married Roxanne Bohnert on April 11, 1969 in Kerrville, TX.
Although Tink was born at the RB Green Hospital in downtown San Antonio, he was raised on the family farm at Camp Verde, something he was so proud of. He spent his elementary and early Junior High years of his life living next to his grandparents on the farm learning from his father and grandfather. After his parents moved to Kerrville, he attended 8th grade at Peterson and was part of the first class of students in the newly built school. He attended Tivy High School until the 12th grade when his family moved back to the Center Point area where he finished his schooling. Tinker, as so many of his friends called him, had to take over for his father in construction at age 15 after a construction accident which left his father unable to work for over a year. At age 17, he started working at Mooney Aircraft at night while also continuing to roof every second he could. While working at Mooney, he found the love of his life, Roxanne. After they married in 1969, he continued working construction during the day and Mooney at night and they made their home in Center Point. After a few years, he ultimately decided that working alongside his father in construction was what he was meant to do, and continued with that until a year before his passing. He worked in that trade for just short of 59 years.
During his teens and into late 20's, he rode bulls and broncs for a total of 13 years traveling all over south and central Texas. An accident where a bull horn tore through his knee ultimately ended his bull riding but he never lost the desire to get back on. After his three kids finished their schooling in Center Point, he made his home in Harper since 1993. It was an easy choice for them to move as his father had already been living in Harper and most of his friends from his teen years were from there. His love of coonhounds led him to a board of director position with the Texas State Coonhunters Association which he and his wife both still hold lifetime directorships. That ultimately led him to a job with United Kennel Club in 1996 as the Texas Field Representative. Along with that job, he and his wife were given the opportunity to travel all over the central, eastern and northern US representing UKC, something he passionately cherished. He continued on in that capacity until he was forced to retire from that position after his second bout of cancer in 2012. The friendships he made are innumerable, and truly cherished.
He loved his wife with everything he had but his proudest accomplishment was his kids and grandkids; especially the grandkids. He could dote on them for hours. Each one was different in their own way, yet manifested their pawpaw in a special way.
He was preceded in death by his parents John and Grayce Taylor. He is survived by his spouse, Roxanne; daughters, Ava and husband Jeff Jones of Harper and Jackie and husband Michael Felts of Harper; son John Taylor of Harper; along with his grandchildren, Kelby Jones and fianceé Katie of Harper, Justin and wife Emilee Jones of Kerrville, Cooper Jones of Harper, Jessica, Baley and Brooke Felts of Harper; sisters, Karen and husband Mike Odell of Kyle and Wilma Taylor of Ingram.
Visitation will be Friday, July 2, 2021 at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Kerrville from 5:00-7:00pm.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 3, 2021 at 10:00am at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Kerrville with Keith Mosley officiating. Burial to follow at Harper Community Cemetery in Harper.
Pallbearers will be John Pace, George Menzies, Buddy Barron, Teddy Holekamp, Benny Barker, and Ernie Gabriel. Honorary pallbearers will be Kelby Jones, Claude Jordan, Bill Cantwell, Bill Wood, and Karl Myers.
Memorials may be given to Hill Country Memorial Hospice, St. Jude Children's Hospital or Harper VFD.
