Jerrell Alvin Hood, age 85, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 17, 2022 in Kerrville, Texas.

Jerrell, or as most called him, 'Jerry,' was born in Milano, Texas to Jessie Alvin Hood and Lila Grace Hood on September 7, 1936.

Jerry graduated from Milano High School in 1955. Upon graduation, he served in the United States Navy for 4 years. When he left the Navy, Jerry worked for an offshore drilling company before attending the Texas Game Warden Academy. In 1962, he began his career as a Texas Game Warden and married Peggy Ann Taylor in Comfort, Texas. They welcomed two sons, Howard Wade Hood (1963) and Jeffrey Clay Hood (1964).

In the late 1960s, Jerry transitioned into the ag-chemical business, and his career took the family to Rosebud, Texas, Hereford, Texas, and Brush, Colorado. They finally put down roots in Kerrville, Texas in April 1970. That year, Jerry acquired his real estate license. In 1971, he founded Tierra Linda Ranch Estates. Jerry spent the next 40+ years working in real estate in the Texas Hill Country.

Truly, to know Jerry, was to love him. He never met a stranger, and his jovial demeanor lit up a room. He had a knack for conversation and would spin stories with a twinkle in his eye. He will be remembered for his excellent marksmanship, amusing colloquialisms, love of Notre Dame football, and an inspiring commitment to his Catholic faith.

Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Ann Hood; parents, Jessie Alvin Hood and Lila Grace Hood; brothers, Howard Wayne Hood and Allen Perry Hood; sister, Barbara Ann Hood.

Jerry is survived by his two sons, Howard Wade Hood (Marina), Jeffrey Clay Hood; sister, Wanda Sue Chandler (Charles); grandchildren, Brittany Kathleen Hood, Hillary Ann Kennon (Alex), Shelby Renee Donnellan (Patrick), Conner Wade Hood. He also left behind 5 great-grandchildren (Avery, Willow, Aiden, Brecken, Dixey) and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:00AM on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Comfort, Texas. A private family burial will follow.

The family would like to extend the most sincere thanks to Elizabeth Maldonado for caring for Jerry over the past 8 years. Additionally, the staff of Peterson Hospice provided incredibly compassionate care during the final weeks of Jerry's life. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Peterson Hospice in Kerrville.

Jerry Hood - what a great guy who's no longer with us. In addition to his friendly and outgoing manner he was always extremely easy and pleasant to be around. We always laughed at his country sayings and when you thought you'd heard them all, he'd come out with a couple new ones! I bought the house I'm in from Jerry in 1993, this began a long and endearing friendship. Far too many residents of Tierra Linda today do not realize or recognize his outstanding achievements in getting Tierra Linda Ranch off the ground and to where it is today. He preserved through the thick and thin of the real estate rollercoaster world, probably often wondering himself if he was going to make it. His stories about the early days of Tierra Linda's beginning, designing the roads and at times walking in front of the bull dozer laying out the roads. I've heard his stories about the huge parties he and Peggy threw at the Red Barn to attract investors, as well as individuals interested in only a lot to build a house on. The idea of having Tierra Linda a working ranch is unique in its approach from the norm, along with the many amenities offered here; a far cry from most developments then or today. Jerry was instrumental in and truly deserves being called, "the father of Tierra Linda Ranch". It is still a wonderful place to live some 50 years later. Our deepest condolences go out to Howard, Jeff and the entire Hood family.

I loved every minute my Mom and I were in Kerrville. Jerry always made everyone laugh. All of us kids upstairs at the clubhouse during Deer season playing pool. My heart goes out to Howard and Jeff, it’s a huge loss.

A recent back surgery kept me from attending Jerry's funeral. Reading his obituary sent me down memory lane. All the good times we had on the ranch growing up. I always enjoyed being around hearing his stories. Loved his laugh, quick wit and that smile. Your parents were my God parents that was awesome. Knowing all of you has been a great chapter in my life. I love you guys. My prayers to each and everyone of you. Virtual hugs also. The world has lost a great man. I can already see your Dad & mine are having some laughs right now remembering the old days. Love you guys. God bless you all.
