Big sister, Karen Brehmer Saunders, went to be with her family in heaven on Monday, June 27, 2022. She was born January 9, 1949, to Elvira Schiller Brehmer and Lee Roy Brehmer in Austin, TX; she was their first daughter.

She was preceded in death by both parents and her sister, Gaelynn. She is survived by her loving husband of 46 ½ years, Walter Saunders; and her sister Donetta Brehmer Ludwick and husband, Larry Ludwick. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews who lovingly referred to her as Aunt Quachy.

Karen's Celebration of Life service will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, 624 Barnett Street, Kerrville at 11:00 am on Friday, August 12, 2022 with Pastor Mike Williams officiating. Please come join us in celebration and joy.

Quacky, you left us way too abruptly. We will dearly miss you down here but know all your earthly cares have been removed now. If we listen with our hearts, we will hear your beautiful voice singing with God's angels. Love and miss you big, BIG!

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Grimes Funeral Chapels of Kerrville.

Dear Karen,

You and I went through our first adulting events together - first serious jobs, first adult apartment as we became roommates, first loves. You were a gift to me and you always kept on giving to everyone in your life.

Forever in my heart,

I am so saddened to learn of Karen’s passing. I have known Karen and her family since I was about 4 years old. My grandparents, Dick and Hattie Mae Midkiff lived across the street on Pecan street. My mother, Hazelle Calcote and I lived on a ranch near Harper. I played with Karen when we came to town . I later attended Tivy High School and graduated with her in 1967. Since that time that time I have visited her many times around town whether it be at the beauty shop, grocery store, library as well as our 50 year class reunion. She was a beautiful, kind , friend. I will certainly miss her and her sweet smile.

Karen was the first person I met when I moved to Kerrville from West Texas. She was at the laundry mat socializing.....(true) She welcomed me and invited me to her beautiful Zion Church. Never have I met a more gracious, positive, joy filled woman in my life. She was truly God's daughter. My human heart is going to ache to hear her laughter and feel her hugs. Karen, you will never be gone because I am holding on to you in my heart. I know you are singing in heaven. I can almost hear you!

Walter and Donetta, I am so sorry to hear that Karen passed away. I have fond memories of her putting up with me when I was a kid and driving us around in the white station wagon.

I never saw her without a big smile. Walter, I think you were the big part of the happiness that seemed to surround her.

She was a wonderful daughter, big sister, and wife. My life was enriched because she was like a big sister to me too.
