Anne Atwood Ellis, 92 years young of Kerrville TX, passed away Oct. 30th, 2022 in the early morning at River Point of Kerrville where she was lovingly cared for by the staff and Peterson Hospice.

Anne was born Dec. 14, 1929 at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington D.C. into a military family whose parents were Col. Frank Jarvis Atwood and Ida Jean McBean.

She graduated from Stoneleigh-Burnham School in Greenfield, MA and lived in the D.C. area where she later met her husband, Allie Burton who was serving as a White House Aide after being decorated upon being released as a POW in the Korean War in 1952. Their lives in the USAF had them in numerous locations, allowing a son, William Burton to be born (1957) in Washington, DC and the next year a daughter, Lucy Burton (1958) to be born in Palo Alto, CA. while Allie Burton was attending Stanford University.

Anne found sobriety in 1978 after a difficult journey of addiction. She began her career as an LCDC Counseling in Montgomery County, MD. She was a Director with United Way, she also started a Counseling Center, contracting with NIH and traveling abroad with the People To People International to places like Russia and China. Anne loved her work in rehabilitation and her biggest honor was seeing others healed of addiction that almost claimed her life numerous times.

Anne was preceded in death by her father and mother; her brother, Brig. Gen. John W. Atwood of Los Angeles, CA; her son, John D. Burton; and her husband, Keith W Ellis.

She is survived by her son, Will Burton and daughter, Lucy Burton (Mike Boster). Though a grandmother, Anne did not know how many great grandchildren she had due to her diminishing memory. She leaves 3 grandchildren, Jamie R. Zintgraff (Solomon, Elsa, and Esther), Charlie Fowler and his wife along with 3 boys (#4 boy Oliver is due this week), Harley, David and Derek; and Alysia and her husband Kalen Mills and their 3 boys, Samson, Cyrus and Levi.

See Mom, without you none of us would be here.

We, The Burton Family and Anne Ellis family are grateful for all the staff and caretakers at Peterson Hospice and especially Mom's home away from home at River Point. Thank you to Rodney Bacon as Exec. Director for his huge heart and Lana Buttner the Program Director for her love toward us the past few years. All the Hospice people and staff have been exceptional in their love and care. Please be a part of the solution by visiting the local care centers and showing respect and listen to the life stories of days past.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 4, 2022 at Grimes Funeral Chapels with Frankie Enloe, officiating. No burial to follow.
