Avonda Lee Jones Compton, 85, of Kerrville, passed away on March 25, 2023, in Kerrville, Texas. She was born November 19, 1937, to Hartford Rodgers Jones and Daisy Marie Rittgers Jones in Corpus Christi, Texas. She married Johnnie Glenn Compton on August 25, 1957, in Corpus Christi, Texas.

She went to school in Corpus Christi, Texas. She graduated from Del Mar College in 1969. In 1990, she retired from the Veteran's Administration in Kerrville after working as a Licensed Vocational Nurse for 21 years.
Avonda was preceded in death by her parents, Hartford and Daisy; husband, Johnnie; sons, Johnnie Glenn Jr., Thomas Gary and Stephen Noah; and grandson, Simon Michael Talamantes IV.

Avonda is survived by her daughters, Linda Marie Compton Taylor (Brian), Jewel Ann Compton Knox (Johnny) and Mary Beth Compton Vanden (Joseph, Sr.); grandchildren, Megan Michelle McIntyre Smith, Nathan Andrew Taylor (Gabriella), Johnny Glenn Compton III (Michelle), Gaven Thomas Michael Knox, Stephen Sol Knox, Sche' Lynn Huston Kehner (Daniel), Joseph Lee Vanden Jr. and Matthew Wayne Vanden; great-grandchildren, Devin McIntyre, Daisy Konecny (James), Cameron Konecny, Stone, Parker and Valentino Talamantes, Christina Compton, Avery Compton, Bailey Compton, Johnnie Compton IV and Micah Taylor. She was excitedly anticipating the arrival of her first great-great-grandson, Kayson Hileman in June.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 30, 2023, from 5-8 PM at Grimes Funeral Chapels.

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Friday, March 31, 2023, at Grimes Funeral Chapels, 728 Jefferson Street, Kerrville, with Pastor Del Way of Calvary Temple Church officiating. Cremation will be directed by Grimes Funeral Chapels in accordance with Avonda's wishes.

Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association.

The family of Avonda Compton wishes to extend our special thanks and affection to Ms. Linda Cotterman for her steadfast friendship to Avonda and her family.
