Orville Cody Thomas, Jr., best known as Cody to his family and many friends, passed away on May 12, 2023 in Kerrville, Texas.

Cody had enormous creative and artistic talent and was recognized internationally for his photography and graphic design work. Cody was passionate about his craft and would settle for nothing less than perfection regardless of the amount of time it took. He knew that each photograph, every design and every drawing was personal to his clients and it therefore became personal to him too and he honored that with attention to every detail. Cody's warm and caring personality, quick wit and sense of humor could light up any room and leave everyone in tears from laughing. We now shed our tears for this huge loss so sudden, so unexpected and far too early in his life. Cody had an enormous capacity to love that ran very deep within his soul. In addition to his creative talents, he studied quantum physics and had a passion for learning new things. Few knew that Cody also wrote beautiful poetry - another form of art that was a powerful expression of his views of the world, life, and depth of emotions.

Cody was preceded in death by his father and mother, Orville Cody Thomas, Sr. and Jo Thomas and his great nephew, Charlie James Thomas.

Cody Thomas is survived by his brother, David Thomas and fiancée Shana; and sister, Diane Garrett and husband Bud; nephews, David Thomas, Jr. and wife Natalie, Austin Thomas and wife Dakota and Croft Thomas. He is also survived by numerous great nieces and nephews and cousins.

A celebration of Cody's life will be held at 10 AM, Saturday November 25, 2023, at Grimes Funeral Chapels.

Cody and I met in Kerrville in October of 1995. He was creative, hilarious, and had great musical talent, and taste. I enjoyed listening to him play piano, and guitar. We enjoyed reading lyrical poetry together, and analyzing their meanings. Cody was an amazing step-dad to my daughter, and we continue to hold you in our hearts. What is remembered, lives.

I graduated from high school with Cody, and remember him as sweet and incredibly gifted. He would draw very intricate pictures of birds during class, always careful to have a top sheet to hide them if needed. I especially remember him having a funny picture of his yellow lab, Lemon, in sunglasses and with a cigar hanging out of his mouth. Thinking of Cody posing the dog was hilarious! What a sweet and funny guy. thankful for your spirit.

Whenever I think of Cody, it has always been in the exact way I met him. We were hanging at Tammi's house nearly 15+ years ago. Cody was wearing jeans, boots, a white long sleeved button down and a cap and we were playing the wii. I had no idea that evening would forge a friendship that could pick up from any point it was left off. Whether we were discussing lyrics or photos, having a drink at the Ol Watering Hole or bantering back and forth on facebook, the communication was always there. We had some dark talks, but we had some great talks too and I will cherish both. I will miss that little smirky smile. I will miss his voice. Mostly I will miss his pure heart... Cody found the beauty in everything, as an artist does, and he may have been the first to show me its okay to be unique and own it. Own it LOUD and PROUD. I know there was a free spirit within my friend and I am thankful he is now free from all the things which brought him pain or hindered his ability to move forward. The past couple of years were extremely hard on him.... rest sweetly my friend. You will forever be apart of my stories.

Knowing Cody through work and personal, he was a unique individual and very pationate about anything he touched. I loved our conversations on many subjects and was always amazed at his totally different views. I knew I could count on his honest opinion. I will miss our occasional conversations. He suffers no more and has an eternal smile.

Cody, my dear and long time friend. I had the pleasure of meeting you as my suite mate at Schreiner College in 1985 and immediately bonded with you. Deepest condolences to the family. You will be missed. Glad you are at piece and no longer in pain. You get to be with your Dad. Great times duck hunting in Victoria and the ranch in Mexico.

Goodby my friend RIP 🙏🏼

My heart is broken but I am so glad you are no longer in pain, my friend. I will miss your laughter and your witty sense of humor. I’ve know you for 3/4 of my entire life. The world will be a bit smaller without your presence. I hope you know how much you were loved. You are reunited now with Niko. I know you were met by him as you crossed over. You will be forever missed, Cody.
