Basil Wayne McKay, 84, passed away on October 7, 2023, in Cypress, Texas, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Arkansas to Lee Roy McKay and Violet Opal McKay on February 17, 1939. He married Glenda Doan on August 2, 1958. in San Diego, California. They were married for 62 wonderful years.

He went to school in Raymondville, Texas where he met the love of his life. Right after highschool, he joined the United States Navy where he served for four years as a machinist. After leaving the Navy in 1961, he owned and operated his own auto repair shop in Cypress, Texas. He and Glenda then moved to Harper, Texas, where he opened his second auto repair shop as well as his construction business. He then retired in Kerrville, Texas.

He was a faithful member of the Church of Christ. He enjoyed reading his Bible and teaching Bible classes at church. He also served as a Deacon in Cypress and an Elder in Kerrville. He loved the Lord and shared his beliefs with those he met. He was a strong Christian man.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother and wife Glenda.

He is survived by his son, Wade McKay and wife Debbie of Kerrville, Texas; son, Kurtis McKay and wife Michelle of Katy, Texas; daughter, Judy Harrell and husband Matt of Terrell, Texas; brother, Jimmy McKay and wife Janelle of Kingsland, Texas; brother, Dane McKay of Cypress, Texas; sister, Bernice Ross of Corpus, Christi; grandchildren, Bode McKay, Kyndal McKay and wife Haley, Austin Santhin and wife Heather, Dylan Santhin, Katelynn Harrell and Courtney Harrell; and great-grandchildren, Eleanor McKay and Adeline McKay.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, October 28, at Jersey Village Church of Christ, 8810 Jones Rd in Houston, Texas. Burial services will be reserved for the family and will be held at 2:30 PM, December 8, 2023, at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.

Memorials may be given to Jersey Village Church of Christ, 8810 Jones Rd in Houston.
