Lynda Jeanette Gray was born on September 25, 1947 in Birmingham, Alabama. She passed away Friday, October 27, 2023. She was the only child of Russell Kenneth Gray and Hildred Pitts Gray. Lynda's father passed away when she was only 13 years old and Hildred, her mother, was always loving and compassionate. She emphasized to her the importance of her Christian faith, love for God and Education. Lynda's journey took her to Trinity University, where she earned a bachelor's in education in 1969. Lynda followed her dreams of travel and taught several years in Hemingford Grey, England and Fulda, Germany for the Department of Defense.

During her time in Europe besides teaching, Lynda spent endless hours making brass rubbings, collecting Hummel's and making a Trans-Atlantic flight back to the US with a new Cairn Terrier Puppy.

In 1978, Lynda completed her Master of Education from Trinity University and continued her work as a Diagnostician working in San Antonio, and surrounding school districts. Lynda was loved by many of her students, and this brought her great joy in life.

Throughout her life, she was active in the Presbyterian Church having served on many committees and as an Elder of the Church.

When Lynda's health declined, she moved back to Texas to be close to her cousins and extended family. She joined the Independent Living world and had a great time living at Juniper Village where she found new friends. She enjoyed the camaraderie of movie nights, concerts, and ice cream socials.

For those friends and loved ones that were not able to see her these last few years, we would like to remind you of her sense of humor and her ever present twinkle in her eye. During the last few years of declining health, she never complained and always had a smile. She endured the hard times with grace and dignity, the same way she lived her whole life.

She will be greatly missed by those that were fortunate to have known her. You can be assured that she will be reunited in the loving embrace of family and friends that have gone on before us and will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Russell Kenneth Gray and Hildred Pitts Gray; and her Uncle and Aunt, Thomas ''Leonard'' L Pitts, Margaret Harris Pitts, Charlotte Broden Douglass, Rev. Robert ''Manny'' Douglass, Marianne Broden Bowers; and cousins, Perry Cross Douglass and August A. ''Al'' Lutz Jr.

She is survived by her family members, Dr. Robert ''Bob'' Bowers, Laura Lutz, Rob Bowers (Myrna), Kent Bowers (Eva), and David Douglass (Donna).

Memorial services will be held Friday, February 2, 2024, 11:00am at Northwood Presbyterian Church, 518 Pike Rd., San Antonio, TX, 78209. Graveside Services will be held at Elmwood Cemetery, Birmingham, AL, at a later date.

The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to all the doctors and nurses who supported Lynda: The Staff at Juniper Independent Living, Hilltop Village Nursing Home, and Peterson Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Peterson Hospice, Kerrville, TX; Northwood Presbyterian Church, San Antonio, TX; Southminster Presbyterian Church, Vestavia Hills, AL; or an organization of one's choice.

I realized the other day that we have known each other 43 years. I feel very blessed to have you as my friend. I will always be grateful for your giving me Emma Louise. She was a wonderful little dog and a great addition to my family.

Kent and Eva ~
My heartfelt condolences. Ms. Gray was one of the first residents I met when I started working at Juniper. Always smiling, even if I woke her from a nap she would look up and smile at me. I know the last months were not easy for her or for you, but thank you for looking after her. I miss her. She was such a sweet lady.
All my best,
Carrie Pruitt
