Dan Albert Magee, 81, of Kerrville passed into the arms of his loving Savior surrounded by loved ones early on the morning of December 2, 2023 at Peterson Regional Medical Center in Kerrville. Though Dan's earthly life has ended, his new life in Christ has begun.

Dan was born to William and Wilma Palmer Magee on October 12, 1942 in Robstown, Texas. At four months, the first word Dan spoke was ''hi''. Perhaps that laid the foundation for his outgoing, playful, joy-filled spirit. He never met a stranger and to know him was to know love. Dan was a proud graduate of both Calallen High School and Texas A&I University (now Texas A&M/Kingsville). It was at Texas A&I that Dan earned degrees in natural gas and petroleum engineering while also playing football for the mighty Javelinas and Coach Gil Steinke.

Dan immediately went to work for Mobil Oil as a drilling supervisor after completing his formal education. That experience, along with his years of roughnecking offshore in Louisiana during college, provided invaluable opportunities to learn the many aspects of the oil and gas industry. The remainder of his professional career that spanned almost 60 years were spent working at the leadership level of companies in Texas, Wyoming, and Colorado, including starting his own consulting business. Dan's integrity, work ethic, and knowledge led to his being well respected throughout the industry, He was a mentor to many. His proudest accomplishments were his being a 50+ year member of the National Society of Petroleum Engineers and his serving on advisory boards for the College of Engineering at both University of Wyoming, Laramie and Colorado School of Mines, Golden.

The oilfield gave Dan the opportunity to live in a number of communities, and one of the first things Dan did in the moves was find the local Methodist Church. There he always joined the church choir; in addition, he served in many leadership positions at most of the churches where he was a member. Dan talked often of the influence of church youth group leaders who helped him shape his faith in God, a faith that never wavered. He loved going to camp at Mt. Wesley as a youth. Dan also spoke often of the love of parents and aunts and uncles who helped develop his character and his love of the outdoors--for hunting, fishing, athletics, and just enjoying God's creation. His spirit was filled by being in nature camping, backpacking, hiking, biking, running, and swimming. After moving to Kerrville, he loved sitting on the deck and simply looking out over the hills.

On July 8, 1992, Dan married his soulmate, Donna Schueling, whom he met while serving on the school board of Calallen ISD. He was Donna's biggest supporter in life and will be greatly missed.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents and two half-brothers, Gordon and Billy Noakes.

Along with Donna, those left to cherish his memory include his beloved daughter, Darla Magee (Bob Powers) of Greensboro, North Carolina; brother, Charles (Andrea) Magee of Santa Fe, New Mexico; brothers and sisters-in-law, Fred (Ellen) Schueling, Jr., Richard Schueling, Connie (Wade) Swanson, Cathy (Henry) Lutz, Pat Noakes and Addilu Noakes. In addition, his beloved fur baby, Maddy, and many nieces and nephews, friends and colleagues, remain.

A Celebration of Dan's life will be held at 10 am Friday, December 8, 2023, at First United Methodist Church.

Memorials are suggested to the KFUMC Foundation, 321 Thompson Dr., Kerrville, TX 78028.
