Janie Hill Dean passed away on Monday, December 25, 2023, in a local care facility due to complications from dementia. She was born Janie Lee Hill in Denison, Texas on February 12, 1938, to Gerald Almedia Hill and Myrtie Garner Hill. Janie was raised in Fort Worth and graduated from Diamond Hill High School. She eloped to marry her high school sweetheart, Jack O'Day Dean, on December 20, 1955.

Moving during Jack's career with the Texas Department of Public Safety, Janie lived in Pecos, Tyler, McAllen and Waco, until they settled in San Antonio (Leon Valley) where they resided for forty-four years, until Jack's passing in 2022. Janie retired as a Personnel Coordinator for the Xerox Corporation.

She is survived by her sister, Jean Maltbie; her sons, Kyle Dean (Carol) and Cody Dean (Laura); and her grandson, Jackson Dean.

She was predeceased by her parents; sister, Gerry Fackler; her husband, Jack; and daughter, Kelly Dean.

Jack and Janie instructed that no memorial service be conducted. Instead, a joint graveside service at the Texas State Cemetery will be scheduled on a future date.

Those wishing to make a contribution in Janie's memory are encouraged to consider an animal rescue or pet adoption service.

Cody, I'm so very sorry for your loss, my thoughts and prayers are for you and your family. My son still has the note from them when meeting them in a restaurant for them all to figure out through conversation that you and I had worked together here. I know from our conversations how special she is and they both were to you.

Jack and Janie were just as much my grandparents as any blood relation. Though the DPS family is thick, they were much more than that. We always looked forward to the Texas Ranger reunions in Waco just to be able to see them, Cody and many others. While I’m glad she is no longer suffering and that she and Papa and Kelly are reunited, our hearts and prayers go out to Kyle, Carol, Cody and his family. We love you all - Megan
